This is an absolutely beautiful little cottage on a forested hill away from the bustle and overlooking a charming green valley. Very clean and quiet. We loved it. Great place to stay if visiting Giverny and Basse Normandie.

Our host Elisabeth was most gracious as we arrived in the dark of night and she could not have made our accomodations more warm and welcoming. This home is a gem, and having this as a home base in Normandy was a wonderful experience. I can imagine that stayingwould make i a 6-star+

Beautiful, characterful gite with lovely, helpful owners who live next door. However the stairs to the large, gorgeous tower bedroom were really steep and treacherous and as there was only one combined toilet/bathroom and that was downstairs I was unable to sleep up there with my husband. The other double bedroom downstairs was small but lovely but the twin (kids?) room was in need of decorating.Very well equipped but a little short on storage for your own stuff. Also the sofa and some of the chairs needed either replacing or re-upholstering.The village itself was very pretty and in a lovely part of Normandy but had no shops or amenities and it was at least a 10 minute drive to the nearest shop or restaurant. There was a nice pizzeria/restaurant at Guillon and I would recommend visiting Vernon and Giverny. All in all I would recommend if you are in good health with no mobility problems and want to stay somewhere very rural and pretty, speak at least some French and dont mind driving to get to places.

The place is older and was just as it appears. As an American I want to address the average American travelers concerns. If you are travelling to Europe and you expect the same comforts you have in the States, then stay in the states. First there is no AC! The house was warm in the evenings but did cool off at bedtime. We were there during a heat wave, temperatures reached the upper 90s during the day, a few fans may have been nice, but we managed. The windows have no screens so there will be a few bugs! The staircase in the house is very steep and we worried about the 16 month old. We arranged the furniture to block the stairs and all was fine. The kitchen is small and has no cabinet space, if you want to do a lot of cooking it would be difficult. There is only one bathroom, but again we knew that when we booked and we managed! The roads leading to the house are narrow but we drove a van and had no problems. We booked this home so we could spend time with some family that live in France. For that it was perfect!!!! The owners live in a house on the grounds so if you need anything they are available.

My wife and I had a lovely stay in Elisabeth and Philippes tower. We were warmly greeted, made very much at home and then left to ourselves, with no interruptions except for the birdsong, the occasional cock crow and the car hooters in the village when France won the football world cup. The house has every possible dish, pot and pan, including two coffee machines, so it was easy to cook and eat in. There are some good walks in the area, either on the country lanes or along waymarked paths and tracks. Rather than struggle with the traffic and parking,we took the train from Gaillon into Rouen and it would have been easy to do the same to get to Paris. Monets staggeringly beautiful garden at Giverny is only 20 minutes drive away but be prepared to queue to get in - it is well worth it. Elisabeth was the perfect hostess - when a light bulb needed replacing, it was done instantly. Our only regret was that we missed the chance to say thank you and goodbye to them.
