We spend our family summer holidays at the Côte d'Opale, at the Opale Inn. The most important thing, we've spent a very relaxing two weeks. The Gite offers everything you can think of. A well-equipped kitchen, very comfortable bedding, a clean and spacious bathroom and a very, very spacious living area.There are several streaming services available, if there is a rainy day, but we brought our FireTV stick with us, so we haven't really used it. That said, the internet connection is very good, it is well offering the use of streaming devices.The kitchen is equipped with every appliance you would expect in a kitchen, as we've been cooking mostly in, we had a good chance of using it and it worked as you would expect.The bedrooms are comfortable and cozy, we slept nice and well. The master bedroom is equipped with an extra shower, which we haven't used, but if you want too....All and all we had a great summer holiday and plan to come back.Finally, Nathalie and Jean-Marc are a very comforting host couple. They do live not far away and came around several times if everything is fine and if we need any help to get around, which we gladly used, and based on that, our trip to Lille with the TGV (there is a TGV station 5min away) and seeing the "dragon" in Calais where a great success.Again, thank you, we're planning to come back next year....Mark

I’m surprised that there aren’t more reviews of this property given the amount of bookings they apparently have as this is a super find. An unusually spacious, clean, well equipped modern property with a large garden surrounded by farmland. Very peaceful and quiet, the sound of birdsong, just the odd car passing by. Great to have a shower and sink in one of the bedrooms in addition to the facilities downstairs. Comfortable beds. Sufficient equipment for self catering as we cook in, and a good size fridge freezer and modern oven. They also have access to Netflix and Prime which was appreciated. A short bike ride or drive to the nearest town, Guines, and we didn’t need to drive more than 20 minutes to get to the coast or biking areas. Nathalie and Jean Marc, who live close by, were very helpful and we appreciated Nathalie’s patience with our French :-)

We spent 2 wonderful weeks in a landscape where one of us has passed 24 years of professoional life. We enjoyed the beach and the "new-born" Calais with the dragon cave. And last but not least "french cuisine".

This was our 8 year old granddaughter's first visit with her parents to France and she loved every moment of it. The house was perfect and esay to keep clean with lovely lawns to play on. Wissant beach was our favourite, only 20 mins away. A pretty town with beach facilities, easy parking and wonderful golden sands. Carrefour was nearby in Guines - ideal for all our shopping needs which our granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed as a daily visit to find fresh bread and croissants. Nausicaa was well worth the visit on our only rainy day but it was very, very busy. We have a saying- If the children are happy then so are the rest of the family - and this was very true. We all enjoyed a very relaxing time and thank our hosts for offering such a perfect place to stay. We regularly used to travel south from Calais with our caravan to seek out the Med and knew nothing about this little corner of N France - real little gem - an Opal! Thank you!

The property is located on the edge of the village and is surrounded by fields. The nearest shops are available in Guines, a small town around 3 km away. Flat, sandy beaches are approximately 15 minute’s drive away, though facilities available at some are limited. Though the floor plans shown are accurate, the photograph is somewhat misleading as it is in fact approximately only half of the property which is actually available to the renter. Consequently, the available space is much smaller than the picture implies. However, it was sufficient as a holiday let for a family of four. The property was generally in good order, though would benefit from some routine maintenance including simple steps such as checking all the lightbulbs work. At the time of my visit, approximately 12 of the bulbs were not working! Cleanliness was good though deeper cleaning between renters is recommended. Additional attention is required within the shower cubicle to remove mould and under furniture to clear dust and dirt. Jean-Marc and Natalie, the owners, are both very friendly and welcoming, and were readily available when additional assistance was required. Overall, it is a nice property in a lovely location with two friendly owners. We hope to return in the future.

Had a memorable week at this lovely property. Its in a beautiful setting with fields surrounding it. However it is also near to all amenities with supermarkets close by. Jean Marc and Nathalie were very welcoming and helpful and there are lots of helpful leaflets in the cottage giving information about the surrounding area. We are looking forward to returning in the future.

We had a lovely time it was so peaceful and restful at the cottage.Central for the sea and beautiful countryside and the weather was great also.A couple of small issues we had were cleared up quickly by Jean - Marc who lived close by.The cottage itself had everything we needed for a pleasant weeks stay.I miss the peace and quiet now since returning home !

We had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay in this lovely cottage. It was clean and modern and lived up to all expectations. The views are beautiful and the area is very peaceful yet close to shops, restaurants and places to visit. The owners were very helpful and quick to answer any questions. They have prepared some useful guides to local attractions and places of interest. We visited Le Touquet, Boulogne, Brugge, St Omer, Calais and enjoyed cliff top and beach walks to Wissant whilst enjoying the view of England across the channel.

We spent a great time in this wonderful quiet and well established house. Everything was very clean, we had a lot of room, we enjoyed the barbecues in the huge garden. Several different beaches can be reached within a few minutes. A trip to England is easy to do.

We had a lovely week in this clean and comfortable cottage. It was very peaceful and easy to find. The big gardens were a bonus for us , as we could play outside . We had some lovely days out including Bruges, Ghent , Montreuil, Wissant and St Omer. We found the cite d'europe [shopping centre] very useful for the huge supermarket and a games room for the boys .

We were welcomed by the charming Monsieur and Madame Joan A delightful house, very well equipped and although so near to Calais, a tranquil location. A week was not enough to explore this area; so often overlooked by those travelling further south. Guines is a lovely town with a thriving Friday market, supermarket and plenty of local facilities. The forest provides some good walks as do the coastal paths. Wimereux is a lively resort and Sangatte has an easily accessible sandy beach. The tide was in at Wissant and Tardinghen so not able to comment on these beaches. The porcelain museum in Desvres was well worth a visit too. It is certainly a property we would recommend - in fact we would like to live there!

The house is very clean and bright. It is in a nice situation with fields around it and has a nice garden in a small hamlet. It is only 12 mins from the channel tunnel terminal & cite de Europe and is very convenient for travel in both Northern France and Belgium with Brugge just an hour away. Mr & Mrs Joan were very friendly and luckily spoke good English. I would recommend the house to many people.

Très bon séjour de 15 jours de ce beau gîte. Spacieux,lumineux et fonctionnel. Très bon emplacement. Au calme. Grand terrain où l on gare deux voitures. Supermarché à 5 minutes en voiture. Belle région. La douche dans une des chambres à l étage à été un réel plus lors des fortes chaleurs. Gentille attention du propriétaire : bière locale au frais à notre arrivée. Der Aufenthalt in diesem Ferienhaus hat uns allen (2 Erwachsene 2 Jugendliche) sehr gut gefallen. Das Haus liegt an einer weniger stark befahrenen Durchgangsstraße und da auch noch zum Garten hin abgerückt. Dadurch war es angenehm ruhig. Man hat das Gefühl einer Alleinlage ohne direkte Nachbarn und blickt weit auf die hügelige Landschaft in der Umgebung. Insbesondere durch das Fenster beim Esstisch haben wir Sicht sehr genossen. Zu den Stränden zwischen den beiden Caps Griz Nez und Blanc Nez war es nicht weit, wir sind öfter nochmals abends zum Picknick oder Sonnenuntergang an den Strand gefahren. Lebensmittel kann man gut in Guines oder Calais einkaufen, in Hames-Boucres gibt es einen kleinen Tante-Emma-Laden mit eingeschränkten Öffnungszeiten. Die Ausstattung des Hauses und der Küche ist ausreichend gut, unten hat man in Wohn- Esszimmer und Küche viel Platz. Die drei Schlafzimmer im Obergeschoss sind ebenfalls geräumig. Der Garten hat hohen Aufenthaltswert, Liegen und ein kleiner Grill sind vorhanden. Einen kleinen Abzug gibt es lediglich für das Bett im Elternschlafzimmer, da dieses recht geräuschintensiv bei jeder Drehung im Schlaf ist. Und in der Dusche bedarf der beginnende Schimmel einer Behandlung. Der Kontakt mit den Vermietern Nathalie & Jean-Marc war sehr angenehm, man hatte immer das Gefühl, gut betreut zu werden. Herzlichen Dank für die schöne Zeit, wir hoffen wieder kommen zu können.

Het huis is zeer schoon en licht, met mooi uitzicht over de velden. Wij vonden het verrassend dat de eigenaar in een gedeelte van de woning schijnbaar een kantoor heeft, waar hij af en toe komt. Hoewel de eigenaar zeer discreet en aardig was, vonden wij de onvoorspelbaarheid van zijn verschijnen wat onbehaaglijk. Het gite-gedeelte van het huis was tip-top in orde : gerieflijke keuken, goede TV met satelliet, zeer goede bedden... het tuinmeubilair is verouderd en er zijn geen kussens, waardoor ook niet echt comfortabel. Voor ons en de kinderen was de abominabele kwaliteit van de WiFi een probleem. De eigenaar heeft voor ons een keer de modem (in zijn kantoor) gereset maar dat hielp ook niet. Het dorpje Hames-Boucres kent 1 klein winkeltje/bar/tabak... De openingsuren zijn erg ‘variabel’ en brood moet een dag op voorhand besteld worden. Het huis ligt 4 km van het enorme winkelcomplex Eurocity, en 8 km van de kust. Wij vonden het niet zo prettig om telkens we naar de kust wilden, te passeren langs de kilometers hoge hekken met prikkeldraad en de bewaking rondom de Eurotunnel in Frethun. In de omgeving van het huis zijn wel mooie wandelingen te doen, en er zijn wat leuke dorpjes verder landinwaarts. In het huis is veel informatie te vinden over wat je allemaal kan doen in de streek, terug te vinden in zeer verzorgde mappen.

Nous avons passé un WE en famille très reposant dans ce gîte moderne et lumineux, au calme, loin de la foule de la côte d’Opale tout en étant près de tout . le jardin est entouré d’un champ et ensoleillé toute la journée . Le gîte est très bien équipé et on y trouve une belle documentation sur les activités à faire dans la région.. Nous reviendrons certainement.

Wir haben zu drei Erwachsenen und einem 6jährigen Kind unsere Herbstferien in diesem schönen Ferienhaus verbracht. Die Lage ist ausreichend abgelegen von Calais, so dass es dörflich und erholsam gelegen ist. Dennoch nicht zu weit von der Cote d´Opale und Calais entfernt. Wir haben es genossen beim Frühstück den Sonnenaufgang durch das große Bildfenster zu beobachten. Der separate Wohnzimmer- und Fernsehbereich lädt zu gemütlichen Spielen ein. Die drei Schlafzimmer im Obergeschoss sind ebenfalls geräumig und die französischen Betten bieten genügend Bewegungsfreiheit. Einem Schlafzimmer ist ein Waschbecken und eine Dusche angegliedert, praktisch und unabhängig. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt.

As the house is located at the border of the village in the middle of a field, the closest neighbours are about 80 meters away; thus you are neither bothered by anybody nor have to worry about bothering someone else with e.g. loud music. It was very spacious for our four-person group and well equipped with everything we needed for the week we spent there, from the great kitchen to the washing machine. On sunny days the terrace in front of the house as well as the garden in the back were ideal for relaxing in the sun. Outside of the house, the Cote d'Opale has many places worth a visit. The two caps and Calais are all reachable in less than 30 minutes by car, and there is also a bus stop close by where you can take a bus to Calais. Many thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Joan for a very enjoyable stay!

Très beau gîte spacieux et bien équipé. Tout était très propre et en ordre à notre arrivée. L'endroit est très calme, parfait pour le repos ou pour une mise au vert. Les 3 chambres spacieuses nous ont accueilli (2 adultes + nos 3 enfants en bas âge dont un bébé) très facilement. Il y a même la place pour un 4eme enfant sans problème. Communication très facile avec le propriétaire, par ailleurs très sympathique. La documentation disponible dans le gîte (cahier compilé par les proprios) est très bien faite et donne une bonne idée des expéditions à faire dans un rayon de maximun 20-30min de route. Adresse à garder et à conseiller.
