The Neighborhood:

Adventure awaits on Pleasure Island. Exploring the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, home to incredible coastal wildlife, or take the scenic car ferry across the Cape Fear River for a relaxing visit to the charming town of Southport where quaint streets are filled with unique antique shops and galleries. History lovers can walk the scenic, live‑oak‑lined trails of the Fort Fisher State Historic Site, where Civil War bunkers still stand. Nature enthusiasts will love the island’s two state‑managed coastal preserves: Carolina Beach State Park, home to rare Venus flytraps found naturally only in this region, and the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area, known for pristine beaches, marshes, and wildlife viewing. Both offer beautiful opportunities for hiking, paddling, fishing, and spotting pelicans or even nesting loggerhead sea turtles.

After a day outdoors, unwind on your private balcony with a sunset cocktail, or head into town to explore the best of Carolina Beach. The Carolina Beach Boardwalk, ranked one of the Top 10 Boardwalks in the U.S. by Food & Wine, features classic seaside fun—local restaurants, an arcade, ice cream shops, bars, and the famous Britt’s Donuts. In summer, enjoy weekly fireworks and live entertainment, carnival rides, family nights, and Flamingo BINGO. Off‑season brings signature island events like the Cape Fear Kite Festival, Christmas by the Sea, and the Island of Lights Festival. Pleasure Island offers something unforgettable for every traveler—adventure, relaxation, and the perfect coastal escape.

Getting Around:

Getting around Pleasure Island is a breeze! While parking can be limited in peak season, especially in popular spots, paid private or public parking is available. We recommend exploring Carolina Beach and Kure Beach on foot or by bike – they're super walkable and bike-friendly. You'll find safe pedestrian and bike routes, including the Island Greenway. Renting a golf cart or bike is easy, too, with several local rental companies. Golf carts are one of the easiest ways to cruise around the island. Rentals are simple to arrange, and once you're behind the wheel, you can zip along any road posted 35 mph or under.

Ideal location for a family vacation

Very positive stay! We would stay again. Only negative was the size of the TV in the main room. We like to watch movies at night . The TV is small relative to the distance to the 2 couches.

Our stay at Comfort Zone was great. We had plenty of room for our family of 8. We loved how close the ocean was and also a short walk to Kure Beach Pier. Everything was as described in the listing. We had a wonderful time and would stay again.

The photos of the home did not depict the actual size of rooms and/or affiliation of the home layout. The pool is quite small. All of this is fine as long as you know what you are getting. It was unpleasant to be surprised by layout, pool size, and how close the neighboring properties are. The location is wonderful, the home is well maintained, the water pressure is PERFECT, the beds sleep well, and closet space is nice. Some small details could be added like towel hooks in the bathrooms, a retractable clothing line on the back porch, and moving the washer and dryer to the downstairs area. Overall it was a good stay. We appreciated the bikes we could use but wish we had known we didn’t have to rent them so we wouldn’t have brought our own. The rental contract alludes to having to rent these but a sign is up at the house saying they are free to use. Would have been nice to know they had a beach wagon and things we could have used so we wouldn’t have brought our own. We had 2 rounds with bees we had to spray, thankfully we didn’t get stung. The trash was VERY FULL when we arrived and we had really no where to go with our trash until Tuesday. The kitchen trash can is too small. A larger can may have allowed us to hold more trash until trash pick up on Tuesday. I’m sure this seems like a lot but I own my on Vrbo and I know how important these details are for 5 star reviews. Hoping the constructive points are well received. We enjoyed the property and would return.
