Grassy Creek, NC - Set on 40+ private acres among the rolling hills of Eastern Ashe County and close to the Virginia line, this wonderfully handcrafted Buckminster Fuller–designed Geodesic 3/4 Dome offers a one-of-a-kind mountain retreat. With over 300 square feet of windows, the home immerses you in the beauty of its surroundings. Inside, you’ll find warm touches everywhere—solid cherry paneling, wormy chestnut cabinets, and hardwood floors.
A cozy living area invites you to gather around the Vermont cast iron stove with gas logs, while high-speed fiber optic internet keeps you connected if you need to work or stream. An inside stairway leads to an enclosed observatory at the top of the dome—a perfectly romantic spot for stargazing above the tree canopy.
Step outside, where a spacious deck wraps halfway around the dome, providing the ideal spot to sip your morning coffee or watch the sunset. Just beyond the kitchen door, a stone pathway leads to the patio, where a swing, picnic table, and bubbling hot tub await your relaxation. The property also features two fire pits—perfect for gathering under the stars with a blanket, roasting marshmallows, and making s’mores.
Take time to wander the trails that meander through the woods and open meadows, or sit quietly by the scenic pond with a good book. From the highest ridge, you might even catch a glimpse of Grandfather Mountain on a clear day.
When you’re ready to explore, adventure and local flavor are just minutes away. The New River—perfect for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, or floating lazily on a tube—is just down the road. The home is pet-friendly too, so you can bring your furry family members along for the adventure. Note: Pets allowed with a $75 per stay per pet. Airbnb/VRBO will only automatically charge one pet. The host will add an additional $75 for each pet if you are bringing more than one pet.

We booked this place for a quiet Christmas getaway, and could not have been happier. The host prepared the house with lovely Christmas decorations and had everything clean and ready for us. The property was gorgeous, with plenty of outdoor space for us and our dogs to walk around and enjoy the scenery. Very quiet and secluded. The house itself was incredible. Would not hesitate to come back and bring friends.

Everything about our stay was an absolute dream. It was very easy to get in touch with the host if needed, check-in and check-out was a breeze, and the property was breathtaking. Not only was the actual dome itself beautiful, but the surrounding land and features took the experience to a whole other level. We could have just stayed on the property the entire stay and been more than happy. The sunsets, sunrises, and stars were gorgeous with all of the windows and the hot tub was the cherry on top. Everything was veryyy clean (including the hot tub which can be hard to find), conveniently close to so many surrounding towns, and just such a unique and beautiful stay. We did run into some wasps inside the house but it was cold and they were moving slow. I could see it being more of an issue in the summer time, but just in case anyone is allergic. This was the ONLY "issue" we had and I wouldn't even call it one. Overall, I seriously cannot stress enough how incredible and magical this Vrbo is- so happy to have been able to stay.
