there are better alternatives in auckland

location is good, even tho a lot of weird people in the area. my bed was okey and clean, also bathrooms were clean

there is no proper common room/lounge (it‘s basically just the kitchen dining area, so you will just smell like oil and frying all the time. also the fridges were super full we were struggeling to find space for our stuff. the dormroom was quite smelly and no fresh air, also I didn‘t like the fact that the toilets/showers are mixed.

Fabulous

The place is spacious, facilities are well maintained and clean. The location is perfect, easy to catch buses and walking distance to anywhere in the city. Lots of restaurants, dairy shops, cafe, supermarkets etc around here. Staff is helpful, lovely and polite.

Ok for a night.

The reason we booked this place was because our group could be in the same room as it was our last day together after a year. We WhatsApp them and called to confirm we would be in the same room and confirmed a parking spot. They said yes to everything and that it’s all set. Get there on NYE and they said we will be different rooms. It was frustrating because that’s literally why we booked this place and it was confirmed by them. They said there’s nothing they can do and we wanted to stay somewhere else but wouldnt refund us and refused to get a manager to help. Later in our tiny room, another staff comes in and says we need to move our car or else it’s going to get towed. I had to show them the message that it was confirmed and then they tell us it will cost $20 which we weren’t told previously. It would be ok for a night. Annoying experience and wouldn’t recommend because of staff.

Everything! I 100% recommend staying at Hobson Lodge. The staff and the people around here are super nice and friendly. There are many toilets and showers, and the bed it's really comfy.

Had a very pleasant stay at Hobson Lodge.

What I really like about this hostel is the location. It’s close to the cbd, only few minutes walk away. Also, the kitchen has the things you need to cook so you can save by cooking and not eating outside the property. The manager is also very nice and helpful! The toilets and baths are cleaned everyday which is good and it’s also tidy and neat. The people staying at the hostel are also nice. You get to meet new people and make friends. I only stayed there for a week for a holiday but I loved it there.

I can’t really think of something I don’t like about this property. Oh! Maybe it’s just my roommate who snores a lot and very loud and I couldn’t sleep well because of it. Otherwise, everything was good.

The layout of the place is perfect. Peaceful quiet easy going place to stay. Handy to town and other suburbs. The kitchen and Abolution Blocks are spacious and nice to use. Wonderful shower. Lovely lighting and creative spots here and there. Great sleeping at night and anytime of the day or night is okay. Friendly Staff. Nice place to keep to ones self or Social life and conversation is possible. To each there own. Mauri Ora🙏🌹🙏

Toilets need to be cleaned 4 times a day. The upstairs toilet is always dirty. Also the South American Guy Victor has been staying there for more than 5 years....and he keeps talking mostly to girls only instead of guys......Other Backpackers and travellers also need to be given a chance to work there instead of Victor.

It was a great and comfortable stay.

It was really good that they have a lot of common areas where you can work or chill, especially even it’s past midnight unless you stay quiet. They have multiple shower rooms and toilets. The kitchen is pretty big and the plates and utensils are abundant. The curtain by the bed is good to keep your privacy. The staffs are also really nice.

Not the best hostel in Auckland, but maybe the cheapest

Secure facility with two doors requiring a code before entry, beds were passable, each bed had a dedicated large cabinet for storage, fan helped circulate air and keep cool during the summer. There were multiple toilets and showers so I never had to wait for one to be available.

Not the cleanest hostel I've stayed in, kind of run down. The neighbourhood can be a little sketchy at times, as I heard some loud shouting very late one night.

Filthy place

Quite expensive for the place. Kitchen was a mess and was still in the morning. Basins in the bathroom had blood spit all over. In total, such a filthy place. Beds were very shaky.

Very good

The beds in the room that I was staying at (a 6 bed female-only room) all had curtains, which gave lots of privacy! Every bed has a power socket and a night lamp nearby, which is very convenient. Each bed also has a locker to store your valuables. The location is great!

The kitchen/lounge area could have been cleaned more frequently. There could be a few hooks or little shelves in the shower.

Very nice stay close to the cbd

Beds with sheets and small separators between the beds for privacy were very nice. Chargers with a holder for my phone were very practical as well. The bathrooms and showers were also large and clean, which was very positive about the lodge.

The small cloth to dry your hands was sometimes lying around and were quite wet… it would maybe be better to replace them more often.

Passable

The location is very good indeed and there is adjacent parking for about eight small vehicles. The common lounge is adequate and the ablutions area is larger than most and functional.

The office operates on restricted hours. The "emergency" number has only a message box (no actual person). This service was requested because the main door failed to open with the correct pass-key. The 2nd door (same pass-key) opened without incident. The kitchen has a number of stoves (about five) with plentiful pigeon holes for non-perishable food. However, the rubbish bins are not removed on a regular basis (overflowing at 4pm) and there crockery and cutlery are piled up to the left of the sinks. There are no regular "walk-rounds" by the staff. The batteries in the clocks (except for one) have expired. Overall : a bit Micky-mouse but ok for the money and especially so if one requires parking at about $17 / day (from memory)
