The key code provided from booking.com was wrong so we were unable to open the key box! Luckily the museum was still open, just, so a very nice man came and let us in with his code.
V uneven floors and every door is a fire door so unsuitable for elderly. The pub opposite is quite noisy on a night/ early hours. Otherwise, quaint, comfortable and great location in the centre of town with everything you need provided.

Very atmospheric and quirky property, but with modern convenience. Loved the idea of staying in an actual castle.
Wasn't really anything to dislike but with uneven floors and stairs its not suitable for disabled.

Fabulous location, free parking on site, great experience to stay in a castle. The furniture was beautiful and the heating was excellent.
The beds were quite uncomfortable, as in uneven, on a lean and quite small for a couple to sleep together.

What’s not to love about this property. Every room is full of character. The Kitchen is very well equipped, the bedrooms are tastefully decorated and the beds are comfortable. The sitting room took your breath away with high vaulted ceilings. The views out of every window were beautiful and reminded you, you are staying in a real castle! I loved reading about how the building was done up and about the history of building. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There isn’t a square corner or even floor in the whole building, packed full of interesting nooks and crannies, it is a building that keeps giving and we all loved living here for a few days. Wish we could have stayed longer.
You are in a working museum, with fantastic exhibitions and to cap it all a very very good onsite cafe, so literally cross the courtyard for some breakfast coffee and lovely food.
My mother in law has a sore knee and found the uneven floors difficult. However, the steps on the stairs are nice and wide. If anyone has mobility issues, please don’t be put off as provided you can manage a flight of stairs everything is on one level.
The only other thing was out of the control of the property. The Green in front of the property is a hangout for local drunks. On our second night three police vehicles pulled up and one chap was arrested. There was lots of shouting by the group, the police handled it very well, but the next day the drunks were back.

OMG 😲 what an experience to be able to stay in such a historic building. We kept finding doors after doors wondering what was behind them!! The excitement we felt exploring this house was wonderful! Yes the floors are uneven yes the doors are heavy yes there are cracks in the wall but that is the charm to staying in such an old building. Go to travelodge if u want neat and tidy! If you love quirky historical places this is for you. 🏰💙

An amazing experience staying in an 800-year-old castle. The pictures do not quite do justice to what it feels like to walk in this lovely renovated space and feel the history. Plenty of books on the Summerset - which informed us about every detail. Not surprising since it is run by the friendly and cheerful staff of the Somerset Museum. ABsolutely lovely!
No bathroom supplies - shampoo, conditioner, etc. Not a biggy but would have brought with us if we knew!

Wow , what a beautiful historic building . Amazing central location . Comfy beds and warm throughout . Everything we needed for a self catering break . Would definitely stay again .
Uneven floors tricky for an elderly relative .
Would be good to have a sofa in dining area and TV that can be pulled around so all can view for the rare nights in !

We loved staying at this really unique accommodation. It was very cosy, comfortable and warm throughout. We loved all the antique furniture and the little second hand bookshop at the entrance. The living room and dining room were huge, perfect for hanging out as a group of friends. Loved the thoughtful touches like biscuits and teas. Very comfy beds. Great central location in Taunton as well - walking distance to some lovely restaurants and cafes. We would absolutely recommend this place to stay and would love to come back ourselves some day!

Very easy to find, good explanations upfront and property manager available on the phone at any time; the property is amazing, kept the historical aspect while very well equipped. Very central location and nice view.

Kitchen had everything you need and thoroughly enjoyed sitting down for dinner in the dining room. Lovely deep bath. I had the bedroom with the four poster bed and the room was huge. Its a querky old building and lots of interesting information about it. We loved it was set by the museum. My daughter especially liked the window seats and the board games provided.
The single bedroom would be great if the single bed could be changed for a small double. The adult staying there felt it was very narrow and almost fell out of bed lol. It got cold in the evening as the heating seemed to go off around 8pm.

This really is a great property with plenty of space for the four of us. However, it is an old property and it may not be very accessible and user friendly for people with walking or visual impairments.
The property was brilliantly equipped and difficult to fault. The only issues were potentially accessibility and the doors were very heavy but we really don't expect anyone to do anything about this - they are part of the charm of the property!
Also wifi not great but the problem was acknowledged in the notes in the property with advice on how to get the best service.

Big living area and kitchen, well equipped. Lovely castle tour and helpful staffs. Very convenient, in the middle of Taunton town center. Great experience and memories. Thank you x
Bath was blocked, we couldn’t use it.

A real novelty to stay in the castle, the kids loved it, lots or original features and a real adventure for the family. Bedding and towels all good, loads of space and a shed load of history.
The bathrooms are not flash but are functional, the only not shower is down stairs which isn’t great if you are staying upstairs. There is no working WiFi so you need to come prepared with some extra tech, fire stick, hotspot from your phone or equivalent.
