About this house rental

Built in pure Creole tradition, Habitation Thara will charm you with its calm and wooded interior. A traditional frame supported by real stone walls.
Facing North / South, the thickness of the walls provides optimal ventilation and freshness, like "Antan lontan"! No air conditioner! Useless, even for the rooms located upstairs!
The owner, who is discreet by nature, has her craft of rum and planter at Habitation Thara. The opportunity, if you wish, to discover this magic potion!
This characterful house, located without vis-à-vis "La Porte d´Enfer" du Moule, is ideal for a stay with family or friends. The private walk on this site at the end of the day to the Porte d'Enfer, on foot, will complete your stay.
This 2 hectare property is a former hunting reserve. There are many species of endemic plants and birds. It gives direct access to the Porte d'Enfer by a path in the middle of the national forest.
In the vicinity of Habitation Thara, the main sports activities are surfing, hiking, horse riding and the essential beaches!
The house also offers a very large library, ideal for bibliophiles!
Ping-Pong table, Wifi, high quality Hi Fi, 2 satellite TV channels.
On request, it is possible to request a hike or a picnic in the forest.

Wishing you a good holiday at Habitation Thara!

Villa Thara is located near the quiet village of Le Moule on the East Coast of Guadeloupe in Grande Terre. This wonderful stone house is located off the road in a secluded and quiet enclave. The house is charming and filled with unique local artwork. The Carrefour in Saint François is close, as are a number of Pâtisseries and Boulangeries, and fresh fish is plentiful at the local fish market. The house comfortably sleeps 4, there are two bedrooms on the upper floor, although not a tremendous amount of privacy. It would be possible to sleep children on the small cots, also located on the second floor, under the eaves. The bathrooms are not extremely functional, and we all ended up using the same shower on the ground floor. The kitchen is functional and semi well equipped, and we enjoyed several wonderful meals at home. The appliances are in need of an upgrade, particularly the refrigerator and washing machine. The barbecue was rusty and not usable - which was a disappointment, as was the quality of the bed linens and pillows. There is a pool, which we really didn’t use as the beaches are so lovely and diverse. Wi-Fi connections on the island of Guadeloupe are spotty, at best. The two dogs that come with the house are sweet characters and we enjoyed having them around! All in all I would recommend Villa Thara and the magnificent island of Guadeloupe!!!

Five of us visited Guadeloupe and stayed at Thara for a week. We were all from the US with modest skills in French. Anne Marie was very gracious and welcoming upon arrival, and arranged for a translator (Julius, whom you'd probably see again) to be present to aid in our initial orientation (AM speaks some Spanish too). We had a little trouble with directions due to mangling by google translate, but if you use google satellite the property is the one with two red roofs and a pool SSW of Villa Ksayn, due E of a small pond. The house is large and set back from the road along a shared driveway. It has two foot thick stone walls with generous openings for breezes. There are two nice bedrooms at opposite ends of the second floor. These have bedroom fans and mosquito netting for when it's still. We didn't miss AC. The third smaller bed is downstairs in what I would call the dining area (though we always ate outside) and isn't private, but would be fine for a young child or two. The kitchen is well equipped. AM recommended that we use bottled water for drinking and cooking rather than the city water, which we did. The house occupies its clearing along with a wonderful pool (gets partial shade in the afternoon) and an open barn where AM runs her rum business. Also two amazingly well behaved dogs who never once set foot in the house. They loved ear scratches but were never annoying. They gave us a sense of security and we never bothered to lock up the house. Also lending to the feeling of security is that Eric, the gardener, was often present doing his thing, and AM or her colleague Jean Marie would often pop by to work in the barn for a bit or feed the dogs. You can hear (though not see) the surf from the house, a ten minute walk. The views once you get there are pretty awesome especially if the surf is up. There are hiking trails. The northern beaches are rough and rocky, if dramatic, and we tended to do our beaching along the south coast near St. Francois. At first we did our shopping in Le Moule but ended up using a couple stores on the way to St. Francois as traffic was less of an issue. The restaurant scene is better in St. F than Le Moule, though AM recommended a local cuisine place in Le Moule which was excellent. The wifi worked flawlessly. We never attempted to turn on the television so can't speak to that.

This was a great open air house with a really nice pool. The house had everything you would need (although we didn't have water for a day which broke the washing machine.) The owner comes by every day to work so is there to answer questions when necessary. WiFi and cable work well but the kitchen is a little old for the price.
