About this cottage rental

A haven of peace that can accommodate 4 to 6 people in the middle of a 3 hectare property of meadows and including a covered and heated swimming pool (from the beginning of May to the end of September) of 5.5 m by 10 m (shared with the owners) . The cottage is located 1 km from a small rural village surrounded by woods and crossed by the Meuse. The greenway (along the river) linking Givet to Charleville-Mézières (75 km) is at the foot of the property. The place is very quiet and ideal for observing animals (beavers, foxes, herons, swans, geese, ducks, etc.). The area is ideal for hiking, whether on foot, by bike or on horseback. Everything is planned to welcome riders and their mounts (meadows, paddock, saddlery). 8-9 mountain bikes (in order) are also at your disposal. The cottage is composed of a beautiful and new kitchen, a large dining room, a living room (TV + DVD) as well as 2 bedrooms (double beds), a bathroom with bathtub, a independent shower and 2 toilets. You also have a private terrace equipped with a barbecue and a large garden (+ furniture) bordering the swimming pool.

The Accommodation:This house is in an amazing location with amazing views by the river Meuse. The atmosphere is relaxing in the house and the surrounding area.The hosts were welcoming and showed us around the property and facilities when we arrived. We always felt like we had privacy, but the hosts were always available if we needed them.As well as an amazing heated and covered swimming pool, bikes were provided free of charge. The cycle path was quiet and was a pleasant ride to nearby villages. Bring your own helmets if required.Things to do:Lac des Vieilles-Forges is a great place. You can walk around the lake, swim in it or dine in the lakeside restaurants (reasonable prices for tourist attractions). Parking is free and so is beach access. We visited just before peak season and the beach was quiet. I believe it gets super busy in July and August.Parc Animalier de Charleville-Mézières Great for a couple of hours and is only a 15 minute drive away from the house. It is a small animal park with wild boar, deer, goats and other animals. Free parking, free entry and free food to feed to the animals.Tips for fellow travelers:The TV in the lounge is quite old and can’t play movies from USB nor DLNA. The Wi-Fi signal in the house has limited coverage so streaming movies to your own device in the lounge is not possible. Best option is to download movies in a good signal area of the house and watch offline.The single track road to the house has many potholes.

I went here with my 3 teenagers and 3 dogs. It is a very peacefull place with very kind owners. The pool was great! Even in the rain. We visited Reims, Charlesville-Mezière and an adventure park. We went mountainbiking and running down the Meuse. It is an amazing spot in the Ardennes.

Stunning location. Views of the River Meuse and rich wildlife can be soaked from the living room and outside dining. The swimming pool shares the amazing views. Hiking, cycling, paddleboarding can all be done from the doorstep with markets in nearby towns Charlesville Mezieres, Sedan (the Ardennes cycle/walk trail along the Meuse take you direct to both). The Ardennes National Park is vast venturing into Belgium and Luxembourg several options for walks and lakes in these neigbouring places under an hours drive from the Gite. Reims is just an hour and half drive if you fancy a city/urban trip in champagne region.

Beautiful location with wonderful views, the property is very comfortable if not luxurious. The kitchen/dining area had just about everything: all the little things you take for granted at home but are so often missing in self catering properties. Comfortable beds, good bathroom and two showers and two loos. And to top it all, access to a heated 10 meter pool under a canopy. Will recommend it to friends and family. Wonderful!

Wonderful place!

We stayed here for a quiet holiday, 5 nights. The house was just what we needed. Not too big, not too small. Comfy beds, relaxing lounge.. We enjoyed cooking our own food! This was probably the best holiday we've had since we started going on trips. We had lots of places to walk, we had bikes at our disposal.. The swimming pool was lovely! Everything was so quiet and relaxing.. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We were able to drive to lots of nice places, including the castle of Sedan en the caves of Han. We had the pick of the land really! I highly recommend this Gite, either for a place to stay at night so you can explore during the day, or just a place to put your feet up and relax for a few days. Not to be missed!

The accommodation was situated by the banks of the river Meuse. It is extremely well equipped with all you need and felt like a home from home. The bikes were great and we enjoyed riding them along the river. The swimming pool is the best we have had with the added bonus of being covered if the weather wasn't good. Natalie and Patrick are extremely helpful and have created a wonderful holiday home. Thank you

We had a very relaxing and peaceful stay at the lovely cottage. Mr Patrick and Mrs Nathalie were great hosts. The cottage was relatively close to supermarkets and trainstation. I really recommend a stay if your looking for a peaceful country vacation.

We arrived at La Cle after a busy weekend at a classic car rally in Laon. Nathalie and Patrick greeted us and introduced us to our accommodation then left us to relax and chill. The gite is extremely well equipped and superbly located above the Meuse. We made a few trips out into Belgium and Luxembourg. The pool was a joy to come back to. There are several supermarkets in the area, with bread and meat available in the local villages. sitting out in the shaded barbecue area in the evening watching all the birds and the horses made for great relaxation. Lots more to see than we were able to pull in. Would certainly recommend La Cle and the Ardenne region

Toen we aankwamen kregen we, als we dat gewild hadden, wat te drinken aangeboden. Daar we wat vroeg waren konden we wachten in het warme overdekte zwembad of zelfs gaan zwemmen. Wij besloten even de bij het huisje aanwezige fietsen aanbod uit te proberen. Nu waren wij met zijn zessen, 4 tieners en 2 volwassen en de kans dat de fietsen zouden passen was gering. Toch hadden we allemaal een mountainbike en/of tourfiets waarmee we naar dorpen konden en zeer dichtbij gelegen ruime supermarkt aan het eind van de 500 mtr lange landweg. Er was keuze uit ± 10 fietsen voor kleintjes tot volwassenen, niet echt om zwaar door bossen mee te crossen maar goed genoeg voor bospaadjes bij het huis en de zeer mooie vlakke fietsroute langs de Meuse die je als je wilt ruim 80 km kan fietsen. Wij hebben er een 18 km gefietst op de leenfietsen. Zere bips als ongetrainden, dat wel. Schitterend ook voor de ouderen die met hun eigen meegebrachte Hollandse fietsen ver willen fietsen over het vlakke zeer goed geasfalteerde mooie fietspad. Huisje ligt bijzonder, via stukje fietspad en verharde landweg kom je bij het huisje aan de maas. Daar wij aangaven te willen gaan wandelen, was Nathalie gelijk voor ons aan de slag gegaan en had mooie routes uitgezocht, we kregen kleuren prints, wandelkaart te leen en een (iets ouder model) GPS wandel navigatie systeem te leen. Super hulpvaardig. De kinderen die wilden hebben lol gehad in het zwembad met opblaas speelgoed etc. En de 2 honden waren knuffel achtig, de blije schaapshonden wilden gaarg geaaid worden en achter de stok aan. Voor de paardenliefhebber was er uitzicht op de prive paarden van Nathalie en Patrick. Aan koffiezetters, broodrooster, servies enz. geen gebrek. Een echte aanrader is een wandeling in Bogne sur Meuse van ± 14 km die je desgewenst op veel plekken kan inkorten. Deze gaat langs schitterende hoger gelegen rotspartijen. Op de heen of terugreis kun je Waterloo (vonden wij bijzonder, wist je dat de heuvel met leeuw door Nederlanders gebouwd is?) nog meepakken, Walibi of Euro space center Ardennen etc. De midweek was zo voorbij en we kijken er met plezier op terug. Oh ja, zou ik nog vergeten de leuke barbecue die je vrij mag gebruiken onder een idyllische overkapping. Bedankt Nathalie en Patrick. (-:

We spent a wonderful week with Nathalie and Patrick at their gite in Joigny-sur-Meuse. This region of France and nearby Belgium is beautiful with not so many tourists (other than us.) The gite is spacious with a large, well funished kitchen downstairs and the bedrooms and living areas upstairs with a second bathroom. It is perfectly located for visiting the historical areas of WW I and WWII. We were only 1½ hours from Bastogne and Verdun which were incredible to visit. The beautiful city of Reims is only one hour to the south. There were always markets in the nearby villages or Charleville-Meziere and many good restaurants in the area. Le Bistro de Potinere recommended by Nathalie nearby was outstanding. On the day of our arrival, we had the pleasure of celebrating Patrick’s birthday with their wonderful family and friends. Everyone certainly made us feel welcome. If you have never visited the Champagne-Ardennes region before, we strongly recommend you make this a priority and of course, stay with our friends Nathalie and Patrick. You will not be disappointed.

My family and I enjoyed our week in this lovely gite set in a beautiful little village. The owners were extremely helpful, friendly and welcoming to us. The general atmosphere was very relaxed and made for an enjoyable holiday despite unusual weather. The pool was a great addition and was useable no matter what the weather.

We had a wonderful week in the peace and tranquility of the Meuse valley. The views are wonderful and area so interesting. The hospitality of Joel and Katia is the best, we have ever experienced in all our years of renting properties abroad. The Gites is comfortable and spotlessly clean and well located to visit so many places.
