About this house rental
Casa Maiz Ponte is a large modern house set in enclosed gardens with a sliding covered swimming pool and wide open views over the picturesque valley. The first floor terrace offers great views of the surrounding countryside and the downstairs partially covered barbecue/dining area is well equipped with a wood fired pizza oven, dishwasher, fridge, ice machine and a large home-cinema screen for movies. The house is split into two self contained apartments giving everyone their own space. On the ground floor there is a games room with table tennis, table football, vintage arcade game and four bicycles. The first floor has a open plan living area and kitchen leading onto a large terrace, 3 double bedrooms (one en suite) and 2nd bathroom/shower room. The second floor has a sitting room, 1 double bedroom (en suite), 2 twin bedrooms, kitchen and 4th bathroom/shower room. 5th toilet in barbecue area. We have a very large enclosed garden with many fruit trees which you are welcome to pick when in season. We are ideally situated for exploring the North of Spain. Our nearest town Castro Urdiales is a beautiful fishing village only 10mins by car (35mins walk). Castro boasts of two blue flag beaches and numerous restaurants and bars. Bilbao is 30mins, Santander 45mins and San Sebastian 1 hour 30mins.
Montealegre is a small village. The house is situated in a stunning valley overlooking neighbouring farms. There’s a local bar in Montealegre 5min walk from the house. There is also a children's playground, football and basketball court within walking distance. Local activities within 30mins include horseback riding tours, guided canoeing, paddle boarding, quad biking tours and many more. We are only 10mins by car to the A8 motorway giving you easy access to many amazing locations in both Cantabria and the Basque country. For guests travelling without a car, there's a bus stop in the village 5min walk from the house to Castro Urdiales. From Castro Urdiales you can take a direct coach to Bilbao, Santander, San Sebastian and many more local places. This is the perfect location for combining rural relaxation, seaside fun and city sophistication. *Occasionally but not normally in the summer months, a designated area in the valley is used for stacking logs. Free WIFI.

We were a family of 12 people, between 8 and 72 years old. We loved it!The house is very well equipped and comfortable for everyone. The garden and the swimming pool are perfect, but our favourite places were the porch and the barbecue, we could spend a month there!It's a great location—very close to Castro Urdiales. There are tons of things to do and visit around, including Bilbao.Kelly and Luis are very friendly, helpful and always available.We are definitely repeating soon.

Luis and Kelly were excellent hosts and very helpful giving us great information as to what to do in the towns. Our family had lots of celebrations and we will always remember our memories in Spain.

The welcome from Luis and Kelly was excellent and the house spotless. Any queries were dealt with. You arrive over a small hill from the local village and it is like you enter a world of calm, with the only sounds being the local animals, including the bells on some of the local farm animals. If you close your eyes you could be in the Swiss Alps. The house is perfect for large groups. Our kids loved the pool, games room with table tennis, table soccer and 80's games machine. The ice maker in the outdoor kitchen was also a particular attraction when we attempted pizza on the outdoor stove. Castro, the nearest town is about a 10 minute drive away, but a great spot to spend a day / get the shopping. Thanks Kelly and Luis!

We had a fab stay, the property is in an excellent location for exploring the northern coast with great beaches and lots to do. Good hosts, and there were plenty of things to do at the property on days when we wanted to stay in - including a really good pool, various games and bikes. 10 out of 10!
