About this house rental
2-bedroom, sun-filled, open floor plan that was recently renovated inside and out. Sits on lovely property with multiple gardens, clearings, and tranquil setting. Read and enjoy the sun on the deck or entertain on the screened-in porch. Enjoy the warmth of large fireplace if cool or have an outdoor shower to refresh. 5 minute walk to West Lake and trails. 5 minute drive to Gedney Farm. 20 minute drive to Great Barrington and a bit longer to Jacobs Pillow and Tanglewood.

Property was exceptionally clean, and centrally located for planned activities and had a well stocked kitchen. The grounds were well maintained, with grassy areas that were shaded, as well as sunny. Furnishing were comfortable and reflective of the owners' personal interests. The house was extremely comfortable and conducive to a relaxing 12 days. The surrounding area is off the beaten path, but close enough to larger communities. The vegetable garden to which we had access, as well as the "honor" farm on route 23 provided a ready source of fresh veggies.Definitely one of our best rentals ever and a place to return to next year on our annual Tanglewood jaunt.The owner was highly responsive to our questions. I wish we had had a chance to meet. Maybe next year.

This lovely house has everything you could possibly need for a cozy Berkshires getaway, and the hosts are amazing. Our second time staying here, and we will be back.

The most amazing thing happened during our 10-day stay at Doug's cottage: we relaxed. There were no lists and no schedules; we even managed to completely forget a performance at Jacob's Pillow. That never happens with us; friends have said we "take trips, not vacations". I attribute it all to the almost magical nature of Doug's home. The property is immaculately clean and well-maintained, as well as beautifully appointed. Comfortable places inside and outside the house invite you to sit and enjoy the expansive views. We relished the peacefulness of the area, compared to Great Barrington, Lenox, et al. Though Sandisfield is a little farther south and east of where we usually stay, it is still convenient to all attractions. Swimming and kayaking are just a short stroll down the road at gorgeous (and virtually deserted) West Lake. Although the house is not air-conditioned, the cross-ventilation is excellent and there was almost always a breeze. We were there during a heatwave, daytime temps well into the 90's, yet evenings were cool and comfortable. Doug is a kind, thoughtful and generous host. If he ever considers selling his property (and he shouldn't!) I hope he contacts us first.

Such a lovely and thoughtful home that Doug and Richard have made available to guests as though they are friends or family they know. Their hospitality is felt throughout in many thoughtful touches. The house is in a somewhat remote location, which I enjoyed. Hikes and walks are easy to find nearby, also a wonderful West Lake just a few minute walk away. For a longer walk, there's York Lake and Southfield with a great coffee shop cafe. I really enjoyed my stay and Doug and Richard were wonderful hosts throughout.
