About this house rental

HIDDEN VALLEY FARM

Hidden Valley Farm is a picturesque country farm on 400+ acres of land in a quiet, end-of-the-road, secluded valley offering plenty of room for outdoor activities. Its wide-open meadows and trout-stocked ponds are surrounded by breath-taking views of Vermont’s famed maple trees, woodlands, and mountains. Hike our private mountain to enjoy the views. Breathe deeply to appreciate Vermont’s famous fresh air generated by countless trees.

The farm features an old-fashioned red country barn housing a bucolic steer. Enjoy the ambiance of staying in a renovated 80-year-old authentic farmhouse. Also available separately is the Log Cabin (Homeaway property #HA 146185), which is up a hill and almost a football field away. Rent both homes (10% discount) for reunions, weddings, family get-togethers, retreats, seminars, writing practicums, etc.

History
The farm has a colorful history. Its Farm House served as a dance hall, and rumor has it that in the 1920 s prohibition moonshine was made at the farm. That might account for the street’s original name—Pint Road. In the 1930 s, the original Farm House burned and the Corey family bought the then 200-acre property, rebuilt the Farm House and ran the farm as a dairy farm. Next, they bought a cider mill and converted it into the barn. They raised dairy cows—and 11 children—and sold milk, potatoes, popcorn, maple syrup, and lumber, which they sold out of a sawmill they built that is still standing.

The Farmhouse
The 3000-square foot, two-story Farmhouse offers several gathering areas: a modern living room with a fireplace; a dining room; a high-ceiling sunroom with flat-screen TV, a bar, and a wood stove; a fully-equipped sociable kitchen, and a laundry room with washer and dryer. Outside security cameras provide security in the front and back yards.

The Farmhouse sleeps 2-14 with four bedrooms, a sleeping alcove, and two and a half baths. There are three twin beds, three double beds, two queen beds, and a day bed in the sunroom.

Indoor entertainment options include cable television, free wi-fi, books, and board games. A propane grill is on the Farmhouse deck. For socializing around a fire, there is also a fire pit.

The Log Cabin (Homeaway property# HA 146185)
The single-story 1200-square-foot log cabin, one of the few left in Vermont, has all today’s modern conveniences. Situated on a hillside, it is nicely laid out, sleeps 2-6 in two bedrooms, has a full bathroom with two sinks, a living room featuring a traditional stone fireplace, a dining area, an open, full kitchen, a laundry room, and a sitting porch overlooking Hidden Valley Farm.

Activities on the Farm
Great private location for walking, hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, canoeing, and watching for wildlife. Meander through wildflowers. Walk the farm’s meadows. Explore the pine and maple woodlands. Hike our mountain. Barbeque and have a bonfire under the moonlight.

Get re-acquainted with serenity as you breathe Vermont’s legendary fresh air deeply into your lungs to clear your mind and energize your spirit.

Swim in our large pond, dive from its pier. Guests are welcome to use, at their liability, our 2-4 person paddleboat, canoe, and two kayaks on our ponds.

Watch for wildlife. Wild rabbits and families of wild turkeys are likely to march by during the day. Deer come at sunrise and sunset. Listen to owls at night. Foxes are occasional visitors. Like all farms, field mice are present in the fields, but controlled in the house. Hunting is not allowed on Hidden Valley Farm.

In winter, enjoy sledding in the snow on the farm.

Relax with our library of classic books. Wind down with one of our many board games.

Our mission is to send our guests back home refreshed, renewed, and revitalized. Vermont will do that for you. If it’s peace of mind you’re hoping to rediscover, it’s waiting for you at Hidden Valley Farm.

Activities off the Farm
The heart of our small town—the Wells Country Store—offers essential groceries, a variety of homemade baked goodies made fresh every morning, soups, salads, and sandwiches for lunch, and Juli’s excellent wine collection.

The lovely Lake St. Catherine in the Lake St. Catherine State Park is a 5-10 drive, just past the town’s miniature golf course. The park is convenient for picnicking (picnic tables provided), fishing, boating, and jet skiing.

Golf
Eighteen-hole golf is a 10-minute drive to the open-to-the-public Lake St. Catherine Country Club (or at the famed Saratoga National Golf Course, named one of Golf Digest's Top 100 Golf Courses).

Skiing
Hidden Valley Farm is central to all of Vermont’s major ski areas. Bromley is the closest, a 30-minute drive. Pico, Killington, Stratton, Okemo are all about an hour's drive.

Fishing is popular on the nearby Battenkill River.

Local farmer’s markets and craft fairs.

Manchester, the original outlet town, is to the south, with award-winning restaurants and antique shops. Don’t miss the charming independent Northshire Bookstore, Orvis's glorious flagship store, antiques, and arts and crafts shops. Stop in Manchester after skiing at Bromley or Stratton.

To the north, Rutland offers a variety of restaurants for dinner after skiing Killington, Pico, and Okemo.

We had a great experience however with the hot weather the house needs another AC unit! The rooms upstairs were very warm! Most of the family slept downstairs. Other than that. The family was in the pond all weekend! House could use a deep cleaning! Sun shining in the front room shows that the windows were not wiped down well. Screen door on sliding glass door needs to be replaced it kept falling off its track. Rooms and bathrooms were clean! My 9 year old grandson had a blast catching bullfrog and fishing! Great home we would stay there again! It’s country living!

Beautiful house and property. You can not swim in pond, but you can fish. You can not use the hot tub. It is a house in Vermont so know that you will see ants and other bugs. Also there was evidence of mice, we didn't see any but saw their leavings. Also the ac was only in one room, and struggled keep to up with the warm weather even there.
