Quinta da Galeira

Our stay in this incredible one-bedroom home exceeded all expectations, offering an abundance of space and three wonderful balcony spots to take in the views. The gracious host/family went completely above and beyond by surprising us with fresh Portuguese tarts and warm bread one morning. This unexpected act of genuine kindness truly made our experience unforgettable.

The location is wonderful. The view from the windows, the terrace, the garden etc over the Douro Valley are breathtakingly beautiful. The host, Carlos, lives on the site and is on hand to help with any questions and queries. He was an exceptionally welcoming man and we were genuinely sad to leave this wonderful place. The site is at the top of a fairly steep climb up from the town so if you struggle with hills, a car is probably a good idea (we came by train from Porto so it was a walk every time for us, excepting a taxi to and from the station with our luggage). Talking of the train, any visit to Pinhao MUST include a journey to and from end of the line Pocinho and/or Porto if you didn't travel from there. Train fares are very cheap in Portugal and if you're over 65 and can prove it (eg Passport) then there is a 50% discount. Also when in Pinhao, take a river trip and visit a Quinta or two! Quinta da Foz is at the edge of the town and is well worth a visit.

Exceptional View and terrace. good location, walking distance to village center (very steep return), bed quality is good, house remained fresh despite high temp outside

Very bad acoustic insulation-we could hear the shower of neighbours, people talking outside, and of course the village annual Festas which had very loud music until 2:30am…old sliding windows do not block noise even sleeping with earplugs…very little equipment in kitchen (pots, cutlery…), old swimming pool, pump equipment is noisy. Tough Parking with gravel and pits on a steep hill, no shade.
