About this house rental

This charming old farmhouse, tucked away in a small valley just a couple of minutes outside Cotignac, sits between our own olive grove and Provençal vineyards. Enjoy the breeze rustling through the countryside, a shimmering pool, and terraces made for long lunches and afternoon siestas under the shade of our olive and mulberry trees.

Indoors, the old part of the house retains traditional features like terracotta floor tiles and log stoves, while the newer wing is light and airy. Downstairs, there’s a well-equipped kitchen, a dining room, a cosy sitting room, and two bathrooms - one with a shower and roll-top bath, the other with a shower.

Just past the kitchen is a double bedroom on the mezzanine level and two single beds on the ground floor. Upstairs in the original part of the house, there are two bedrooms: a large double with high ceilings and lovely views, and a twin room best suited for children. The bedroom layout makes the house especially suited to family groups.

Both the dining area and the downstairs bedroom open directly onto terraces with a large table seating six. Around the corner, there’s a second, larger table seating eight, made with beautiful Salernes tiles. The pool overlooks the olive grove and has a gravelled area with loungers and deck chairs for soaking up the sun. Our old mulberry tree provides plenty of natural shade over the chairs.

The local village of Cotignac is a 'Village de Caractère', known for its stone cave dwellings carved into the cliffs. It has a supermarket, two bakeries, plenty of good restaurants, cafés, and bars, plus a bustling weekly market every Tuesday.

Within a short drive are Sillans-la-Cascade, with its striking turquoise waterfall; Entrecasteaux, with its impressive château; and Carcès. The beautiful Abbaye du Thoronet, a jewel of Romanesque architecture, is also nearby. Sainte-Croix Lake and the spectacular Gorges du Verdon are about 45 minutes away.

Mas Saint Antoine has been chosen as an Alastair Sawday special place to stay.

A very enjoyable stay overall, the house was very clean and tidy and had all the features promised. Reno who looks after the house was great at communicating and was really helpful and friendly throughout.A beautiful location, house and very comfortable beds, we especially loved the outside eating area, very nicely done.

We had an unforgettable and lovely week in this beautiful setting,10 minutes by car outside of Cotignac. The cosy home provided us with all we needed for a relaxing week by the pool: Great kitchen and bath, good beds, and lots of space for meals and games together - as well as quiet moments with a book. We travelled with two teenagers and wouldn‘t hesitate to book this place again if possible.

Property needs to be dehumidified (first few nights were spent in damp sheets), aired out and need to be taking care of by a professional. Upon arrival, the house was dirty and we ended up spending a few hours cleaning floors and furniture as well as getting rid of all the huge spiderwebs (obviously there for a while). The grounds also needed attention. The first time and only time we saw the property manager was 10 days after our arrival. All instructions were given to me over the phone about how to handle the issues we encountered during our one month stay, like water and gas problems and fixing the pool water level. We were also asked to go purchase a new coffee maker and toaster because they were not working and the property manager was unavailable. On the other hand, the house was very pretty; it just needs a lot of TLC.
