About this farm stay rental

La Grange is a beautiful traditional detached stone French farmhouse of 200 m2 situated on a hill in the Dronne Valley on the right bank of the river Dronne near Riberac in the Périgord blanc area where the climate is warm and temperate.

The traditional stone farmhouse and barn have been converted retaining all of the original features. The south facing, sunny property, has four double bedrooms, two at either end of the house making it ideal for two families to share. There are two bathrooms one either end of the house and a separate toilet. There is a traditional French farmhouse kitchen with wood burning stove. The lounge is 63 m2 with a full height ceiling and chimney breast in original stone with an open fire and french doors leading to the garden. There is also a snug with french doors leading to the garden. The grounds are in excess of a third of an acre with some trees much needed for shade in the summer. The house is on a hill and the views from the property and garden are beautiful, perfect for relaxing, enjoying a glass of wine and watching the evening sunset.

The Dordogne is one of the most visited regions in France, it is deeply steeped in history, littered with authentic castles, fortified towns and vineyards. There are 6 waterways across the Dordogne offering excellent water activities including canoeing, kayaking, sailing and fishing. France is known for its food, and the Dordogne region is acknowledged as one of the most important food regions of France. The whole of the Dordogne abounds with places to eat and you will never be far from something to suit both your taste buds and your pocket.

April through to October is undoubtedly the best time to visit the Dordogne. Spring brings warmth, bags of fresh market produce and beautiful flowers. Summer is busier and very hot but there are plenty of ways in which to cool off. September and October is less busy when crowds and searing heat mellow, and the grape harvest begins. For committed gourmets, the black truffle season, December to March, is memorable and after a long walk in the winter the open fire and wood burning stoves are an absolute treat.

There is so much to see and to do, the area offers something for everyone, whether you want to relax in tranquil surroundings, explore the local markets, enjoy the many walks and trails, take in some sightseeing, wine tasting or participate in leisure activities or more extreme sports. There are lots of local markets to explore and the Friday market in Riberac is extensive and well worth a visit. The nearby towns of Riberac, Brantome known as 'Little Venice' and Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne with its monolithic church are well worth a visit. There are lots of restaurants, cinema, open air swimming pool, kayaking, fishing, river beaches. La Jamaye is 20 minutes away and is a protected nature reserve with a large recreational lake in the middle of the Forêt de la Double with beaches and water sports facilities. It is a protected nature reserve of 210 hectares, the lake is 35 hectares. There is supervised swimming in the summer months, fitness trail, hiking, fishing, picnic area, play area. The lake is highly recommended, perfect for swimming, sunbathing and enjoying a snack or a meal.

The house is rural, within the small hamlet of La Courberie, but not isolated, there is a local shop in Villetoureix for essentials including fresh bread. Riberac is 3 miles with supermarkets, doctors, pharmacies. Travel links are excellent, 55km (40 mins) from Bergerac airport where there is excellent car hire available or fly to Bordeaux which is about a 90 minute drive. If you prefer to drive there are excellent ferry routes from the south coast. The drive from Caen is about 5 hours.

We found the property well appointed, hot water issue was sorted quickly, and I can't complain about the response either, very good, location was ideal and the view early in the morning was great, and again in the evening as the sun went down.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was full of character with plenty of room and a lovely garden overlooking fields of sunflowers. We had everything we needed and were delighted with the bottle of wine which was waiting for us on arrival. The location was perfect - not as touristy as some parts of the region but with easy access to many wonderful towns and cities. Would thoroughly recommend.
