The view is everything. Wonderful place to enjoy every day the beautiful Northwest scenery. The apartment is very well appointed. The owners are very friendly and eager to please. Wonderful stay in all respects.

It's always a magical time visiting Whidbey Island, and Karen and Shawn's makes the visit just perfect. Beautiful view and great location. It's like going home at the end of every day, and makes it very different from going back to a hotel. I've been there a few times now and brought my fiance with me this year--he was blown away by both the Island and our lodging for the trip. A gem of a home on Whidbey!

Relaxing and beautiful

Oak Harbor is a great location to explore the island. We weren’t at the property many hours of each day, since we wanted to go to the beaches and see the towns, Deception Pass, the Sculpture Garden and the Lighthouse. Every evening the deer and rabbits would forage on the lawn outside our unit. The unit was well equipped for making all our meals. This was particularly important for us due to severe food allergies.

The view, the peace and quiet and coziness of the property was everything I needed. The hosts, Karen and Shawn were so welcoming, both were always concerned about my comfort, really I felt more like family than there guest. Karen and Shawn’s property feels like a world away, yet conveniently located within minutes of shopping, sightseeing and eateries. My only regret is I did not get to take advantage of the outdoor fire pit, winter weather. I highly recommend this beautiful property to anyone looking to get away and reconnect with nature, I will be back!

As promised, the views are spectacular, eagles soar outside the windows, dear graze outside the windows; also outside the windows all day long: the host's husband, walking, by peering in. The cute little fireplace pictured? Also the only source of heat which they will ask you to use sparingly when they greet you upon arrival. That may be fine for summer but not great when you've booked 2 months in the winter & it's 27° out. They also asked us to not use the brighter lights to "save money" and to only do laundry once a week & shower sparingly. If these had been eco-conscious requests, I would have understood but it was all about not costing them any money when I paid them to stay there for 2 months. Not a great start. Then we had a misunderstanding about my daughter's ESA service animal. We didn't realize we had to register the animal as staying with us. When the host realized we had a service cat with us, she flipped out, & threatened to throw us out immediately, halfway through our stay, but instead offered to charge an extra/additional cleaning fee to let us stay. We signed an agreement. A week later, we were shocked when she & her husband again came early one morning and threatened to throw us out again because, unbeknownst to us, our car had supposedly leaked a fluid on her driveway. After calling customer service to ask if this was even allowed, she retaliated by evicting us the next evening, one month early, no where to go, in the rain, with no refund! She was rude, nasty, and abusive--even telling my daughter that she (the host) didn't have time to "laze around all day in bed" like her, despite having been told of her disabilities, chronic pain & fatigue and that she was "sick of us" despite having only met us 4 times (unlike her husband whom we ran into daily). Guests beware. If you don't mind having these people peering in the windows at all times and making strange demands, then you might enjoy your stay. We, obviously, did not!

Our stay here was fabulous! The hosts are wonderful people. The neighbors are very friendly. It was quiet with an occasional Navy fighter jet flying by, which I love. The jets were not noisy enough to deter us from ever going back. The view! What can I say. Waking up every morning to an incredible water view was amazing. The weather was in the 70's. It was perfect!

So many wonderful things I could say about Karen's lovely studio. We had many lovely mornings and evenings relaxing on the private porch, enjoying the beautiful view of the sound with a mountain backdrop. The space was just what we needed, with its open and spacious layout and full kitchen. There were lots of useful guidebooks and other helpful Whidbey Island materials thoughtfully included. Karen and Shawn were super responsive and kind. Loved every minute.

This is a beautiful area! The view is stunning! The rental was just right for our needs. We didn't want to leave. And hope to return. Our host was very welcoming. It was just wonderful!

The property is a large studio in the daylight basement of a house. There is a little bit of noise when the owners walk around upstairs but not much. They were very responsive to our questions/needs. The neighborhood is nice for walking and the location is central on Whidbey Island for exploring. Our primary purpose of the visit was to escape the fireworks insanity in Auburn, Washington. Although were were a few prior to the 4th and a fair amount on the 4th itself, it was nothing compared to Auburn. We enjoyed our visit and sites around Whidbey Island.

Karen & Shawn were great host. Very friendly & helpful. Accommodations were very clean had had all the essentials. We would love to stay there again!

This house was beautiful and peaceful. Everything is close by and accessible. The home owner was amazing and helpful when needed.

We stayed here for a little over two months and were completely spoiled. The pictures don't do it justice - beautiful sunrises, wildlife, excellent kitchen. This is a perfect space for one or two. I also worked remotely for 2 months and had access to a desk and WiFi. Thank you so much to Shawn and Karen for their hospitality and hosting. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

After booking our stay I reached out to Karen a few weeks before arrival about extending our stay for a week. She was more than happy to accommodate, but a few days prior to arrival she asked me if we could come at least a day later and I told her I was unable to do so since plane tickets were already bought. After our arrival there were issues with the payment for the second week of our stay. Karen approached me and I was more than happy to make it right. She then stated that instead of paying we could just leave then, a whole week early. I told her that she approved our stay for the extra week and I was more than happy to pay and I could not leave because of my husbands deployment. The last night of our stay Karen came down and was asking what time I would be leaving the next day. I told her I would be leaving around 9, she then again asked if I could leave earlier because of guest coming in that day. I told her no, because of my flight time and checkout wasn’t until 11am so I was already leaving before then. I felt as if it was uncalled for to have asked multiple times if we could come late and to leave early when she approved our dates to stay. At times there was also a small lack of privacy, but the view and location are great.

Relaxing view

Everything here was excellent! Beautiful view of Saratoga Passage right out back! Great location on Whidbey Island. This studio apartment was spotless and had every possible amenity one could want. Very comfortable bed and awesome shower! Many small creatures such as deer and rabbits hanging out in beautiful property. Everything exceeded my expectations!

We just loved Shawn and Karen as our hosts. They had a new king size fire pit this year, and it was fun in every way to meet their neighbors and talk and laugh. One of the neighbors even came to our rescue when our car broke down ! Their Saratoga view is still incredible (we stayed with them last summer), the eagles whirl in the air currents, the sunsets are so beautiful, the deer and rabbits come out and near the condo most every day, boats glide by in the channels. We were so able to totally relax there, sit in the sun and shade, read, or go tour the island, discovering new restaurants and magnificent vistas. All in all, a magical place - it gets our highest rating !

The morning view was a great way to start each day. While I was fortunate enough to have great weather for most days of my stay, but even on the few cloudy days it was breathtaking. The studio apartment was the perfect place to stay during my two weeks of workshops nearby. Clean, well-appointed accommodations and helpful friendly hosts.

Such an amazing property, excellent location with an amazing view! Charming harbor decor, quaint electric fireplace for heating. Would definitely stay here again. It would be perfect for a couples get away!

There are not any words to describe my stay other than "perfect". Karen and Shawn are two of the most kind and caring people I have met. I was warmly welcomed and felt welcome during my entire stay which was a month long. Karen and Shawn have struck the perfect balance between checking that I had everything I need and providing me with my own space. The studio apartment was immaculate with no detail left unseen. The apartment is technically a studio. I had everything I could possibly need and then some. I woke up every morning to an absolutely beautiful view to start my day peacefully and welcomed me home when I returned. I've never seen anything like it. I will very much miss Karen and Shawn and the place that was my home for over a month. I hope to return to the Island and when I do my first call without hesitation will be to Karen and Shawn and even if the studio was already booked I'd make time to stop by to see my new friends.. Thank you so much for all of your kindness and making my stay absolutely perfect.

It was easy to communicate with Karen and Shawn. The studio was very clean and uncluttered, spacious, well appointed from towels, sheets, extra area heaters, kitchen supplies. The bed was absolutely perfect, just the right amount of firmness!! There is a reason Karen and Shawn have such amazing reviews. Thank you for sharing your magical home with me!

We thoroughly enjoyed the owners, Shawn & Karen! Very respectful, kind people. The rental was spotless and well equipped for our stay and the views were fabulous! A wonderful “get away” for our 40th anniversary!

We enjoyed our 12 day stay. Karen and Shawn were friendly and responsive. The downstairs unit is spacious for a studio, full of light with a great porch view of the water and mountains. Enjoyed many long walks in the vicinity (coastal farmland) as well as lots of great hikes around Whidbey Island. Due to COVID we didn’t spend time shopping but enjoyed some great take out in Oak Harbor, especially halibut and chips from Seabolts. Overall a great time and we would definitely book here again.

The view is simply stunning. The unit is very comfortable, spacious, clean, well-provided, plenty of good books, wi-fi was first rate, ground floor made everything easier, the owners Shawn and Karen were beyond helpful and just fun to know and talk to. Deer with their fawns showed up frequently, and it felt good to walk barefoot in the grass right beyond the large and comfortable porch. I loved this place, and it is really difficult to leave - it became home so easily !

We were lucky to find such a lovely place on short notice. The large property is situated near state parks and beaches but we needed a car for most activities. Thank you to the owners who put a lot of care into their home and vacation rental.

Karen and her husband are extremely nice and made sure we had everything we needed! Their property is exactly how it is described. They were very understanding when my husband and I had to leave just over a week early due to his orders, and were kind enough to refund us part of our money back. The view is amazing! It was such a nice and relaxing location for the two of us!

My husband and I wanted a home base to relax in the evenings after hiking and adventuring all day. We would leave every morning and come back in the evening. The place was easy to get to, wonderful views, and easily big enough for the two of us. The bathroom could get a little chilly but the rest of the unit was fine. Karen did a good job decorating and checking on us almost daily. I probably would have cooked more if there had been a dishwasher but I knew there was not one when I booked the place. My husband and I were able to relax and enjoy the mornings and evenings spent in Karen's place. An added touch was the hiking book that she allowed us to use while there. It was very helpful.
