MANAGING EXPECTATIONS:
Every off grid set up it unique, ours is no exception. The experience is simple and real with no modern-day conveniences such as Alexa, vacuum cleaners, pressure washers or hot water this is what nature looks like (ok we do use a little elbow grease but hey I'm pretty sure they had that a hundred years ago!) Headlamps and personal flashlights are a must as there are multiple stairs/entrances and rugged uneven terrain. Warm sturdy clothing and layers are a good idea as well. Cell reception is weak but you usually can get/receive texts and the occasional call. Any mobility issues could make this stay not a good fit as access to the only 'traditional' style bed is via a very steep ladder

The property is shared with others however the spaces are nicely separated and each has its own private outdoor areas.

COMMON AREAS
~ Similar to a campground the rentals do share a regularly serviced portable toilet unit with hand washing sink station adjacent.
~No shower onsite. If you're a shower a day person the state park; Fort Flagler at the northern tip of the island has coin operated showers or down by the general store there's a dock where you can jump in the bay!
~Purchase firewood and charcoal from the VW bus farmstand. Peruse the free book library, borrow a game or puzzle, reserve your hot soak, grab some 9Mile merch, forgot your s'mores fixins? dont worry we got you covered!! this can all be done at the bus. Take care of incidentals V-mo me at: sarah-mortensen-10
~fill your potable water bottles from the garden spigot next to the chicken coop
~Locate the trails to the tubs just up from the sink/potti
~Across from farmstand and coop is a large communal fire ring for larger gatherings (burn ban permitting)
~Hike the properties 5 acres either by trail or bushwhack your own!

The entire property is use at you and any of your guests own risk, one of our only requests as landlord is we do ask that you sign a waiver/release acknowledging this.

We are happy to greet you upon arrival and give you a small tour to familiarize yourself, If this is something you would like please let us know in advance and we will do our best to accommodate. We emphasize that the property is yours to share in its entirety for both you(cabin) and the other rental (tent)renters alike (and in the interest of full disclosure an occasional owl, deer, forest mouse, mosquito, bee, spider, snail, bat or slug will undoubtedly make an appearance).

9Mile Eco House experience may not be for everyone if you are uneasy without your wifi, running water or really any modern day conveniences, or on the contrary if bugs make you fidget, the quiet makes you nervous and you can't roll with occasionally unforecasted wind/fog/rain this may not be your cup of tea, and thats ok!. The cabin is a work in progress and cannot be fully secured(locked). It is made mostly from reclaimed building materials, a steep ladder may make the loft inaccessible to some and has things like antique windows that don't fully latch, bugs get in, hot air gets out. Be honest with yourself, does this listing sound intriguing or terrifying? if the latter please rethink before booking.

Please understand that the camp is undergoing constant improvements & various projects may be underway during your visit. We try to keep it tidy but realistically that just isn't always possible.

The upstairs bed was very comfortable and warm. The decorations were to my taste. The property owner was easy to communicate with and worked with me on shifting my stay when I had car trouble. We had a good time and loved our stay but we had to make due because we didn’t come prepared to camp. I didn’t find the stay as I expected. It’s on me that I relied on pictures and not the description that was included far below the bullet points of amenities. If you’re thinking about this rental, you should come prepared for camping in an unfinished cabin. It has no electricity and the lights were not easy to figure out. It’s chilly at night and wood is not provided for the wood stove (which is the only heat). Wood must be bought. There is no running water and the only toilet is a porta-potty. The outdoor shower did not work. The hot tubs are not wood fired as stated initially- charcoal must be bought in order to use the soaking tubs.

Stayed the weekend in the cabin. Little stove keeps us warm during a cool weekend in August. Plenty of blanket, kitchen was very well stocked, bed upstairs was so cute and very comfortable. So charming, and quaint with so much character. Out house was very well kept. No power or running water, but just added to that charm. Would totally stay here again!

Very well equipped for an off grid experience. Peaceful, beautiful, in the middle of the woods on an island. Super cool!

The cabin was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. We appreciated the mosquito net around the outside bed because there were a lot of mosquitos. The main problem was that there was a bat in the cabin which was incredibly scary! Every time the lights were off it would fly around franticly. The bed is near the rafters so it is up high near the bat. In addition, there is a rooster who is up late calling and woke up at at 4am with loud calls. Between the bat and rooster we had no sleep and ended up leaving at 4am. We'd have left earlier, but tried to wait until there was at least some light for the drive home. We spent the night huddled under a blanket with hoods on bc of the bat.

This place was both magical and unique. It was an amazing place for our kids to run out in the woods, look for critters, and play. It had all that was needed to be off grid and be comfortable. However, there were a couple things I thought I should mention, and one of them is that if you are taking a few children, some of the beds are outside. I was not comfortable with our young children sleeping outside. So just know that if you have more than one or two children, you will have to improvise with bedding.

The location was perfect. Close to ft flagler but also down the road out of site. Tons of sleeping options, i especially loved sleeping outdoors. Everything created in there is just beautiful. Our only concern, the rooster who cant tell time

A great little getaway in the woods for part of our PNW roadtrip. Loved the creative home and property. Only suggestion: more lighting options in the home. Even if its just a few more rechargeable bulbs, we ended up using our own lanterns and camping laps throughout the home for adequate light, but lots of visitors likely won't have those and might appreciate some better light. In particular, in the kitchen/ dining table area. Great stay though!
