About this castle / palace rental

Charming and completely restored 13th century castle olive mill, transformed into a luxurious country house, located just outside the ring wall of Castello di Montegiove.

Montegiove is a lovely and peaceful medieval country village, close to the main communication lines and equidistant of Rome (154 km) and Florence (151 km), it is an ideal base for exploring the historical treasures of Umbria and Tuscany, especially the countryside of the historical provinces of Orvieto, Assisi, Todi, Spoleto, Perugia and Siena.

The house is equipped with satellite television, high speed Internet connection, independent heating, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, laundry facilities and drying rack. The house is furnished in the traditional style of a central Italian manor house with a tasteful combination of antique and modern furniture. Extra maid service and private cook can also be arranged.

The rental includes heating, weekly change of sheets and towels, normal final cleaning and taxes.
Moraiolo: 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living/dining-room, kitchen, sleeps: 6.

The ground floor is composed of a large living-dinning room with open fireplace and library, a kitchen with access to a small patio, a master double bedroom with view over the valley and a spacious bathroom with shower. The first floor is composed of a long hall, two double bedrooms one with a beautiful view over the valley, the other with French windows pointing towards the castle. A well-designed modern bathroom with marble sink, bath tub and shower.

The garden has a dining area, comfortable deck chairs and a beautiful view over the valley.

The castle of Montegiove has existed since the early 12th century and has in the last four centuries been the property of the Marchesi Misciattelli.

Today, still family-owned, it is the centre of an estate covering nearly 3000 acres of beautiful Umbrian countryside, where oak forests, vineyards, olive fields and arable land blend in total harmony with ancient dry walls and farmhouses built of local stone.

The principal products of the estate are wine, olive oil, cereals, oil seeds, Chianina beef cattle, forage and forest products and. There is abundant wildlife such as boar and deer, and the local flora including truffles and mushrooms. The beautiful surroundings and unspoiled environment make it hard to believe that Montegiove is only 17 km from Italy's main motorway A1 (Milan - Naples), which also connects Rome and Florence.

During your stay in the Montegiove olive mill you will get the opportunity to be the Misciattelli family's private guest and get a guided tour in the winecellar, at the castle and the surrounding estate.

There aren’t enough words in the dictionary to describe my amazing week at Castello di Montegiove. Rikke and Lorenzo are the most spectacular hosts. How they have time to run everything AND take the time to give tours and be as responsive as they are, I’ll never know. The absolute highlight of our stay were the two meals they organized, prepared by local chef Giovanni. We cannot recommend enough that you also enjoy one if you can! He came to our guesthouse and made magic. My nephew even said it was the best meal ever. We also signed up for a truffle hunt, which was such a unique experience. And Rikke and Lorenzo led us on a fascinating tour of the castle itself with a wine tasting at the end. Their wines are fantastic and oh how handy was it to have the wine shop merely steps from our door? Very! (p.s. this is the ONLY store in town.) The pool is as picturesque as it appears, and I often had it to myself while the rest of my party was doing their own thing. If mosquitos like you I recommend bug spray! The Avis car rental they suggested worked perfectly and we enjoyed taking little day trips to neighboring towns, but more critically, to get to the grocery store about 20 minutes away in Fabro. I’m not joking that there are noooooo stores of any sort in town! Not a gas station not anything. Plan ahead on your drive to the castle but if you forget like we did, it’s really just 20 minutes away. I hope to return sooner than later. Thank you Rikke and Lorenzo!

We have had a fabulous week in Montegiove. Easily situated for trips out and remote enough for restful days, this is a beautiful spot. We all enjoyed the pool and the castle tour and the grown ups enjoyed the wine! In addition, Rikke and Lorenzo are super hosts, making guests very welcome. Highly recommended.

Montegiove is a charming place in the middle of Umbrian countryside. Beautiful castle renovated by Rikke and Lorenzo in a farm estate with cows, vineyard and olive fields. We rented a stylish house next to the castle, comfortable, clean and well furnished. The infinite edge of the pool offers a wide view on a beautiful landscape. Last but not least, Rikke and Lorenzo are very nice hosts : warming welcome, good advice about visits and restaurants, every useful service. We spent a really dream week in Montegiove !

My friends and I enjoyed the salt water infinity pool, the wine tasting tour, the local people and area, the castle tour, and our lovely castle apartment. Lorenzo and Rikke were super helpful and gave us advice on the surrounding areas and what to see and do. The castle is an excellent place to also chill out and swim in the pool with the beautiful vista view. We all highly recommend this place to stay.
