We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! * Owner - Lynda was wonderfully helpful, discreet, considerate.* Garden - this was our favourite aspect of the house. Well kept, diverse plants, trees, delicious plums, grassy area, various seating, and a small round pool that my daughters enjoyed circling.* Kitchen - well equipped and not over equipped, clean, attractive, with a convenient layout. * Check-in and out - all easy since Lynda was next door and was most accommodating.* Rooms - good. I particularly liked the en suite attic room because it was spacious and peaceful. No door though, so you can hear everything from downstairs. Living room comfortable, attractive, and well set out. Dining table easily big enough for six of us.* Location - we appreciated the peaceful location. There's a small lake nearby in which you can wakeboard and play on the inflatables, both good fun. At Jugon-les-Lacs, nearby, you can sail, paddleboard, and so forth. For swimming, we drove to the coast because you can't swim in the lakes.* Local people - really friendly. A lovely community.

We enjoyed our stay very much in this cosy house with the beautiful garden. Due to the weather we could spend much time in the privat garden and enjoyed the pool. Lynda is a very friendly and helpful host. She was very discreet, but when we had a question, she answered very quickly.

A perfect holiday home for our three generation family holiday. Good road connections but also a very peaceful rural location. Close to the lakes, safe beaches and beautiful historical towns. Also a lovely garden to relax in on down time in the day. A highlight was a tart made with plums freshly picked from the orchard. Last but not least a friendly and welcoming host :)

We had a wonderful time at Lyn’s beautiful Gite. The house was very well stocked and had everything we needed and was in a very peaceful location but within an easy drive of stunning beaches, the lovely towns of St Malo and Dinan and under an hour to Mont St Michele. The garden was beautiful and the pool was great after a hot day! Lyn was a very kind and unobtrusive host who gave us lots of great suggestions of places to try. Would love to return again one day!

Le Chardon is ideally situated to enjoy a great holiday in the beautiful Brittany countryside. It's 40 minutes from the ferry port at St Malo and other great beaches along the coastline, close to great places to visit like Dinan (20 minutes) and Mont St Michel (60 minutes). Dolo is 5/10 minutes walk away and boasts a nice bar/restaurant serving burgers/pizza/salads etc (but no boulangerie unfortunately). However, Jurgon Les Lacs (a lovely small town) is only a 5 minute drive away and has numerous nice restaurants/bars, a boulangerie, small mini market for groceries etc, weekly market. There's a larger supermarket just over 10 min drive away. The lake is great to walk around and offers watersports, fishing etc. and whilst we were there there were lots of festivals taking place which we enjoyed. Lynda is a lovely lady and a great host. She stays in a small cottage adjoining but is totally discreet. We barely saw her although she was always there if we needed her and provided lots of info for us to get the most out of our stay. The cottage was immaculately clean, well equipped and very, very comfortable. The garden is lovely with areas to sit and eat, an orchard, and a large lawn with very comfy sun-loungers. It was very hot whilst we were there and the children spent much time enjoying the pool which Lynda keeps very clean. It isn't heated but was perfect for us. The children making lots of noise whilst having fun wasn't a problem either. We had a lovely holiday and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Le Chardon to anyone.

Splendid garden and yard with swimming pool. Lots of sun and also shadow if needed. Lynda even had a swing and sandpit for our little one. The house is a classic Bretagne style and matched well to the description. Nice kitchen and good sleeping facilities. Good location to travel around Bretagne.

Thank you Linda for the use of your lovely home the end of August. Both families really enjoyed staying at the house and in the area. The pool and grounds are very family friendly. Jugon-les-Lacs is a quaint but beautiful village with plenty to do with a huge lake and lots of activities, there is a smaller lake and children’s play area in Dolo a few minutes from the house. There are a few very very good restaurants in the town but bigger towns are not far away Dinan is about 20mins from Jugon-les-Lacs and definitely worth a visit. We will be returning highly recommend this beautiful town and property.

We loved this house and grounds. Played a few games of cricket and swam in the pool a few times but unfortunately the weather was against us. Lynda is a fab host, very helpful but also very discreet, would love to come back one day

We stayed at Le Chardon for 9 nights at the end of July for our first holiday to Brittany. Lynda only lets her house out during the Summer months, hence why other reviews of the property aren't that recent or frequent. We therefore felt lucky to be able to stay in this lovely cottage. During your stay, Lynda stays in an attached property - not that you would know - this does add some reassurance that should you encounter any difficulties during your stay, there is someone on hand to help. Lynda is most helpful but unobtrusive and works with you to ensure that she is able to maintain the pool and garden during your stay but keen to ensure that she stays out of sight and sound. The booking process and communication prior to our visit was very good. Upon leaving, we felt like we were leaving an old family friend! The property is in a very peaceful area as described and the garden is lovely to relax in however you do need a car to travel around to make the most of your stay. Dinard airport is only around a 20 minute car journey away and the coast, as well as towns of interest, 20-30 minutes away. The local village is a 5-10 minute walk away and has a creperie/restaurant that we visited one night and a similar car journey away Jugon les Lacs where there are two or three restaurants and a small supermarket for essentials (larger supermarkets are available in Dinan) During our holiday we enjoyed visiting Dinan, St Malo, Rennes, St Cast le Guildo, Bayeaux & the Normandy beaches (a 2 hour drive away), Mont St Michel and Paimpol to name but a few. The roads around the cottage are lovely and quiet, even during the school Summer holidays along with many of the local towns and villages (with the exception of the busier coastal towns). We were pretty lucky with the weather during our stay so we managed to make use of the pool, whilst we spent a good amount of time travelling around it was nice to be able to pop in it for a dip on our return. The garden is spacious enough for kids to run around and play safely. Plenty of loungers around the pool and a patio/BBQ area. The house itself is tidy and has everything you will need for your stay and more, including unexpected essentials that we have previously had to buy in other self catering properties such as dishwasher tables, wash powder, loo rolls, washing up liquid, hand wash etc. The Breton biscuits and tart were a lovely touch on arrival too! We would definitely recommend Le Chardon!

We had a lovely stay in this quiet countryside property, surrounded by farms, with spacious, beautiful and well maintained gardens. The house is clean, tidy and well equipped for 6+2, with two bedrooms on the first floor and a large family loft room with ensuite on the second floor, ideal for families with children who are old enough to climb the wooden staircase independently. The weather was not quite warm enough to use the swimming pool; however, we took lots of trips into the surrounding area and to the nearby beaches, towns and castles. There is so much to see around here! The property is also within easy walking distance of Dolo village with a wake park, lake and playground.The children (aged 1 and 6) had a great time playing on the swings, in the sandpit and Wendy house in the garden and flying their kites in the nearby field. Would highly recommend for families visiting Brittany for a relaxing holiday and to enjoy the French culture and lifestyle. Many thanks, Lynda!

A great place for a family holiday

We stayed at Le Chardon for a week in August and had a great time. Our 3 children especially enjoyed the lovely spacious garden and the pool, which was brilliant for the sunny weather we enjoyed. Lynda was an excellent, friendly host - the house was spotless on arrival, and the wine, cheese and tarte au fraise were a lovely touch. Lynda also popped by during the week, at our convenience, to clean the pool. Dolo is a quiet place - even more so during our stay as the boulangerie and restaurant were shut, although the creperie was open - but pleasant enough, and Jugon les Lacs five minutes down the road has more to offer and is an attractive little town. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, and Le Chardon is a lovely place to stay for a relaxing time, but if you want to hit the road and explore there is lots to see in the area - Dinan is a must! We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Le Chardon.

We had a great week. The cottage is pretty, and cool in hot weather which is great. (It also has a huge wood burner for cooler months which we admired but didn't need). Plenty of space and well equipped. The showers are great. The sitting area is especially comfortable and the garden is a sheltered sun trap - with shady areas when you need them. But we spent most of our time out and about. The local area is beautiful! Full of old buildings and architecture and farms. You don't feel close to the road but we were within easy reach of St Malo and Dinard, Dinan and even Mont St Michel. Ile de Brehat is also well worth a visit - very pretty pink granite and coastline and not busy off the main paths. Our highlight though was the Wakepark almost next door. The guys running it are friendly and speak great English. Their guidance took our kids from never-tried-it to waterskiing and it was just a fun experience (twice). Dolo and Jugon-les-lacs are very French and friendly. Croissants in Dolo are so much better than most English ones but you have to be there by 9 - the boulangerie in Jugon is open longer and probably bakes again if you miss the first batch. All in all, a great holiday! Thank you Lynda.

Just come back from a wonderful two weeks at Le Chardon. A beautiful house in a beautiful area with so much to see and do. We all enjoyed the garden and pool and two weeks of lovely sunshine only added to the general happiness. Just returned from a wonderful, relaxing stay at Le Chardon. The house and garden were very pretty, and in the perfect location for what we wanted to see. The outside is covered in flowers, and the house is well equipped. We arrived in the evening to french bread, cheeses and wines that Lynda had left for us, which went down very well! Lynda was the perfect host, very welcoming and on hand for a chat and useful advice about the local area and places to visit further afield. We fished on the lake at Jugon les Lacs (caught 5 breem) and enjoyed Dolo's Fête de la Musique, held once a year on 21 June, a very French experience! We visited Dinard, where we caught a boat to St Malo which was beautiful, Dinan, a picturesque medieval town and Le Mont St Michel which was just amazing. We also visited the beach at Sables d'Or les Pins, stunning! We would highly recommend this property, thank you so much Lynda x

The house was everything we had hoped for. It was a charming, traditional French house which had been tastefully decorated and was extremely clean. The garden was pretty and peaceful to sit in while the children had great fun playing on the equipment and in the pool. Lynda was very helpful advising us on the local area as well as places to visit which were further away. We were able to take walks round from the house and enjoyed exploring the characterful villages and towns. If you are looking for a traditional house in a peaceful location but with plenty to keep all ages entertained then this is the place for you.

Our 2nd visit to Le Chardon

We stayed at Le Chardon last year and loved it so much that we returned this year. As always, Lynda was very accommodating providing lots of information of places to visit in the local and surrounding areas. The pool and garden was well used by our children, but also by grandparents who joined us and enjoyed the tranquility of the garden and setting. Lots to do around the area - castles, Mont St Michel, Dinan etc. A good base to explore or just stay put and relax. Thank you again for another super stay.

Good location for the lovely sights of Brittany, Dinan is a must - one of the most enchanting towns we have ever visited in France and finally we can tick off the spectacular Mont St Michel - high tide was an amazing sight. Dolo and Jugon Les Lacs are just right for local amenities and very pretty and friendly too. The house was very clean, was well equipped and had lovely French decor. Our two boys, 6 and 8 made much use of the wonderful garden, plenty of space to run about in, loved the swings and the pool. Linda met us at the door and we were given a cup of tea and gateaux before being shown around her lovely home and stunning garden and orchard. Although the photos on the website are good, I must say that the reality is even better, it truly is immaculate, welcoming and we were delighted with our choice. Linda was a fantastic owner, on hand to advise us on the local area which was welcome. We visited Dinan, St Malo and Le Mont St Michel, all of which we loved. The local village is easy to walk to and has a creperie. Jugon les Lacs is a five minute drive and has a bustling square, boulangerie and a small supermarket. We stayed in August 2014 for a week...wished we stayed for 2 weeks. The location is excellent - in the country away from it all, yet close to main roads and beautiful towns such as Dinan and Jugon Les Lacs. It was great for day trips and a lovely retreat to return to at the end of the day. The house was spacious and the owner is friendly and helpful. Grounds were lovely - our 6 year old twins loved playing in the orchard. Will definitely return to stay here - fantastic holiday.

We stayed in August 2014 for a week...wished we stayed for 2 weeks. The location is excellent - in the country away from it all, yet close to main roads and beautiful towns such as Dinan and Jugon Les Lacs. It was great for day trips and a lovely retreat to return to at the end of the day. The house was spacious and the owner is friendly and helpful. Grounds were lovely - our 6 year old twins loved playing in the orchard. Will definitely return to stay here - fantastic holiday.
