About this house rental

A beautiful stone-built semi-detached house, over 200 years old in the village of Azillanet. You'll find a large garden (400m2), private swimming pool (8m x 4m), stone terrace and dining area with a spectacular old fig tree and a swing. The garden is south facing, so catches the sun throughout the day. The property has been sympathetically restored and tastefully furnished, retaining its original burnished oak floors and beamed ceilings. 3 large bedrooms, (one renovated this year with under eaves sleeping and a beautiful old zinc bath tub), a refurbished bathroom and a superb open landing area are upstairs. Sleeps 6. Air conditioning has been installed in 2 of the bedrooms. Downstairs there's another bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and a generous living-dining space. Beautiful views of the village and countryside can be seen from the garden and all upstairs rooms.
The village boulangerie & cafe, 3 wine caves and a local restaurant are a few minutes stroll.

It's great to cycle through the vineyards surrounding the village. Walking and hiking trails also surround the village. Lake swimming (Lac Jouarres) is 10 min drive away, fantastic river swimming is within a 20 min drive (Agel). A supermarket, banks, cafes and other shops are only 5 minutes away in Olonzac. The fabulous Cathar village of Minerve is the next village, just over 3km away and the Unesco world heritage site of the Canal du Midi is about 5km away. The beaches of the Mediterranean are about a 35 minute drive and the old walled city of Carcassonne is a 25 minute drive. The nearest airports are Carcassonne and Beziers (40 minutes), Perpignan (1hr), Montpellier (1hr 15min) and Toulouse (1hr 45min).

We had the most wonderful holiday in Suzanne’s property. Everything was exactly as described (the only thing we couldn’t find was the first aid kit). Suzanne was very easy to communicate with both before and during our stay. The house is set in tranquil surroundings and I am very much hoping to go again! Absolutely loved it.

Beautifully restored stone cottage with an excellent saltwater swimming pool, ideal for kids. Well equipped throughout and very comfortable. Air conditioning in the two main bedrooms, though not the top floor bedroom which was very hot for the children during our visit. Beautiful area with plentiful wineries to visit and history / culture in abundance at Minerve and Carcassonne. Do take precautions against insect bites, especially mosquitoes which were a regular menace during our stay!

The property was perfect for our family of four. It's beautifully decorated and furnished, and had everything we needed. We only used the bedrooms on the first floor, where the air-con was a major bonus. Beds very comfy too. The saline pool was fantastic - very gentle on eyes, skin and swimwear. Azillanet is a lovely, typically sleepy French village. Sadly, when we visited in July, there were no open restaurants. That said, there are quite a few good eateries in the area and we can highly recommend the little van which visits every Tuesday evening and sells delicious wood-fired pizzas!

We found everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Excellent beds with quality bedding (although we didn’t try the top floor beds) and good sized rooms throughout. The large pool was a God-send, as we were fortunate enough to have super weather. Lots of lovely villages to explore – the markets are a ‘must’, as is a visit to the Cave Pech d’André for a good selection of wines (also sold by the litre in flagons!) and the owner is friendly and helpful. Places we visited included La Cité de Carcassonne, Minervois and Peyriac de Mer, a pretty village with a good restaurant. We look forward to a return visit and would definitely book the house again.
