For those looking for a rural break in green Spain, “Tareira” in Vega de Zarza, just outside the village of Taramundi on the Asturias-Galicia border, is an excellent choice. Whether as a place to relax, cycle, take country walks and enjoy the local gastronomy, or as a base for longer excursions, the location is ideal.
More than just a business, TAReira is a family project which breaths new life into an area where the traditional industry of small forges specialising in knife-making has been modernized leaving behind historic buildings perfect for converting into high quality holiday homes. This mini-complex comprises one detached building which sleeps four adults, and another building divided into two apartments, which sleep four and two respectively. TAReira has been awarded the highest category in the local holiday home rating system and the accommodation is tastefully decorated, equipped to a high standard and family friendly. Outdoors you can relax in the garden, barbeque and there is a shared play area for children if needed. The surroundings are beautiful; rich green forest, sparkling streams and rivers and natural beaches can be found within 40 minutes by car. The towns of Santiago and Lugo are close enough for those who enjoy driving to visit in a day (around 1hr 30 mins), or to move on to after a stay in TAReira.
Gastronomy, of course, is another good reason to visit the north of Spain, where the use of local produce and traditional recipes has never been challenged. Visitors can enjoy an authentic culinary experience in an environment where eating is taken seriously, and, not being far from the coast, you can try the best from both land and sea.

Estupenda la zona. Vega de Zarza espectacular, todo naturaleza y tranquilidad. Es una aldea recuperada con mucho encanto. El área recreativa preciosa. Se puede visitar muchos lugares desde este emplazamiento: Ribadeo, Castropol, Vegadeo... Y la comarca de Taramundi que tiene mucho que ofrecer.
La casa muy tranquila y cómoda. Hemos disfrutado mucho de la chimenea.
Carmina encantadora y pendiente de que no nos faltara de nada.

Estuvimos en casa das pitas, con nuestro bebé de quince meses y dos perros. La casa está cuidado al detalle no falta nada y el entorno es muy bonito pero sin duda lo mejor de todo es el trato de Carmina que estás siempre pendiente de ti y de Ramón el propietario que tuvimos un percance y en ningún momento nos puso ningún tipo de problema, cosa que es de agradecer.

Una escapada en pareja a principios de Enero y quedándonos a dormir en Casa Alejandro.Como digo, simplemente perfecto. El entorno es excepcional, la casa rural es preciosa pero por dentro reformada y con una limpieza exquisitas.La chimenea es genial también, y cuando llegamos estaba ya preparada para encender cuando quisiéramos.Pero lo mejor de todo, era el trato de Carmina, encargada de TAReira y amiga de los dueños.GRACIAS por todo, Carmina. Por recomendarnos sitios, por hablarnos de Taramundi y del entorno, etc. Gracias por aconsejarnos ir a comer a la Taberna de Montse en Orrea. De los mejores sitios donde he comido, pero esa es otra historia.Creo que este tipo de casas rurales debería ser la referencia para el resto.Un lugar precioso y un sitio estupendo para volver en otra ocasión.Gracias por todo, Carmina.
