About this villa rental

The Contented Tuscan is a very ancient stone villa on two levels brimming with character and restored with total respect for its rustic simplicity. All rooms are furnished to excellent standards, in an elegant country style with old terracotta floors and original chestnut beamed ceilings. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a beautiful fireplace, log burning stove and dining/sitting room. This two-bedroom villa sleeps up to four people. The bedrooms each with queen sized beds and both have en-suite bathrooms. Both bedrooms are prepared with a double bed, but one bedroom can also be set up with two separate beds upon request prior to your arrival.
The gardens and plunge pool are for the exclusive use of the guests, in a private, enclosed terrace we a have a pergola providing a shady space to eat. What better place to relax with a glass of beer or wine and take in the stunning views after your day of sightseeing!

The villa is located in Guzzano a mountain village 4km above the pretty spa town of Bagni di Lucca. Many of the famous Tuscan landmarks are within striking distance. Previous guests have enjoyed day trips to Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Cinque Terra, Viareggio, Siena and San Gimignano.

The property is located in a mountainous region of Tuscany. Our guests can park directly outside the villa or in an area some 50 meters from the house and should not pose any issues. The owners live below the rental space and will be on call should you need any assistance.

The surrounding area is perfect if you are a keen walker or mountain biker. You can enjoy bird watching, fishing, painting and photography, as well as skiing and snowboarding. We are the first village above the town, walking down will take around 30-40 minutes and you can always hop on the local bus to return to the village.

Bagni di Lucca has a number of super restaurants, serving hearty Tuscan fare. You can also enjoy a post supper flutter at the recently re-opened casino.

You'll find a public swimming pool, tennis courts and thermal baths, along with banks; supermarkets and on Wednesday and Saturday mornings there is a traditional Tuscan market.

Nestled on a hillside overlooking a small village sits a real Tuscan treat. Apart from the narrow winding road, this house is in a perfect location. Everything has been thoughtfully prepared, including a welcome basket of food and wine. The gardens and pool are fabulous. The only downfall is the bed, which is a little uncomfortable. But because everything else is so perfect you can overlook this imperfection.

If you wish to experience Tuscan living out in the countryside this is your Villa! The accommodations are perfect for 2 couples! Steve and Denise are gracious hosts and have decorated this home with incredible artwork and collectibles. We enjoyed every evening sipping wine poolside with spectacular views. It was wonderful for us to leave the busy touristy cities and escape to this secluded gem! The road here is narrow and twisty yet worth the drive! We would definitely love to return!

My wife and I enjoyed three nights at The Contented Tuscan - we wish we had booked at least a week at this gorgeous estate! Steve provided exemplary pre-arrival coordination via WhatsApp. He allowed us to mail a box of 'US goodies' (5-hr Energy, protein bars, other things apt not to find in Italy quite like that in the U.S.) to him prior to our arrival - very hospitable! Denise walked us through the house upon arrival, ensuring we knew where everything was and to use the stove, oven, etc. We were provided a complimentary bottle of wine and water. The beds were comfortable. The showers were excellent. While too cool for us to use the pool, we sat on the porch for sunset with a glass of wine - beautiful mountain views! Steve and Denise were immediately available if we needed anything - very responsive! We cooked meals all three nights at the villa - everything you need is in the kitchen! This is a luxury villa at extraordinarily reasonable prices. The 4km road from Bagni di Lucca caused a little anxiety around the narrow blind switchbacks, but we acclimated quickly. If we return to Italy, this is our first stop and for at least a full week!

Four of us had a wonderful stay in this absolutely lovely property. It is an easy reach for Florence, Pisa and Lucca, with Lucca being a must see! The swimming pool was refreshing after warm April days and we felt spoilt with the view. We had wonderful restaurants to visit down the mountain in Bagni du Lucca, with taxis organised by our hosts, who were absolutely sensational. They truly made our time in their house spectacular. The house had a functional kitchen and eating space with a great garden eating space too. Absolutely lovely

We were warmly welcomed by our landlords. The property was just as described, gorgeous. So that we didn't have to go shopping the same evening, there were great delicacies ready for us. The landlords Steve and Denise live with the house, but they take care of everything but have remained invisible, which we have never experienced before. Everything was very clean and well-kept. There was no air conditioning in the house, but there were fans, which was completely sufficient. There were no mosquitos in the house, as there were mosquito screens everywhere, outside it is advisable to spray against the mosquitoes. All in all, it was a great vacation.

Beautiful house in Bagni di Lucca! It was very clean and furnished lovely. We had a great time. The supplied equipment were more than you can expect normally from a holiday house. We found everything we needed for our stay and Denise and Steve give their best to make it super comfortable for their guests. We were welcomed warmly and friendly. A big thank you to our hosts and we will definitely come back! Highly recommended. :-)

The Contented Tuscan. This is what Steve and Denise have named their holiday rental, and I must say it couldn’t have been named more perfectly. The views.,. “aahhhh”, The accommodations… “ahhhh” They have thought of every comfort and more. The kitchen was well stocked, and the first day’s breakfast and coffee was thoughtfully supplied so we didn’t have to go back into town for supplies until the next day. Steve and Denise have put so much of themselves, and more, into this property. The building is true Tuscan style with gorgeous stone and wood accents. I can say so much more about this property, but future visitors need to experience this truly wonderful piece of Tuscany for themselves.

We are just completing our week at The Contented Tuscan - two couples, one from Australia, one from UK. This has been a magical place to stay. The villa is beautifully equipped- with everything you could possibly need. The decor is a mix of rustic and antique , delightful. Yet the bathrooms have a luxury and modern twist. The pool area and cantina are a wonderful place to relax and the views are stunning. The ‘welcome’ pack consisting of supper and breakfast ingredients, wine, beer and juice were a very special touch. We could not fault this holiday location and would thoroughly recommend it. Great work, Denise and Steve!

Had a quiet and relaxing holiday with two kids aged 7 and 8. Steve & Denise were super hosts that provided a full fridge with the essentials to prepare dinner and breakfast (and even more). The villa is beautiful and elegantly furnished, both typical tuscan and comfortable. Very nice pool area with everything a family needs. Could not have been any better!

We stayed at this delightful home as a family of three with one teenage daughter. Owners Steve and Denise made the holiday stress free from the beginning , providing excellent directions to the villa and arranging dinner reservations and taxis for us. Nothing was too much trouble.The contented Tuscan is a little off the beaten track but wow do the views make up for it. There’s lots to do within a reasonable short drive. Pisa, canyon park and Lucca to name a few days out , followed by a chilled evening back at the house with a dip in the plunge pool to cool off, followed by a BBQ , board game or movie. The house is so well equipped they have thought of every detail imaginable. Would highly recommend this beautiful Tuscan home.

We had a great week in Steve and Denise's comfortable and very well-equipped house. Indeed, the only thing they had not been able to arrange for us was the weather, which meant we were not able to enjoy the delights of the plunge pool (18 degrees!). The view is fantastic, there are some great walks in the area, Lucca is a charming town and close by. There is literally everything you need in the house from utensils and cooking equipment to DVD's, board games and maps and guides. The comprehensive welcome hamper was very welcome as it is over 10 minutes of very wiggly roads back to Bagni di Lucca for the nearest supermarket! Steve and Denise were welcoming, helpful and discreet. Superb.

Stayed here for 12 days. The home was fully equipped with everything you might ever need. The owners were accommodating and very friendly. Spectacular views from the pool area, and the drive up the mountain. Guzzano is a quiet village but close enough to Lucca and the rest of the Tuscany region that made it very easy to tour , yet you always return to the relaxing , quiet atmosphere of Bagni Di Lucca. Hade a very enjoyable stay.

We can not say enough lovely things about The Contented Tuscan and our stay in Tuscany. Steve and Denise knocked it out of the park with their hospitality and attention to detail. We arrived at the Villa after traveling for a full day and were exhausted, Steve and Denise were lovely to meet us and walk us through the details of the Villa, small details were shared like where to turn on and off the lights and use the oven and stove. As stated in a previous review a small basket full of grocery items were left for us to enjoy since we didn't have time to go to the grocery prior to our arrival, so very appreciated! The pictures on their website are just as how the Villa is, so much artwork throughout the house we discovered something new to look at each day They have taken the time to put together a great reference guide of local restaurants and things to do in the Bagni de Lucca and surrounding areas that really came in handy when we were looking for local restaurants to enjoy. We did visit Del Sonno and Circolo dei Forestieri and both did not disappoint. We were thrilled to be able to sit out on the patio and enjoy the amazing view of the valley and surrounding mountain neighborhoods, on several days we were able to see a neighbor and his dog hearding his goats, some Italian deer grazing and the biggest hares we have ever seen. If you are looking for peace and quiet this is the place for you. We took the train to Florence one day and the train was nice and Florence was a terribly busy place, we were so relieved to come back "home" to our quiet Villa in Bagni de Lucca. We feel like we spent two weeks living as locals and we owe that feeling to Steve and Denise. Grazie!

We travelled to Tuscany on our first holiday with our little boy (7 months) and can't say enough about the villa and in particular Steve and Denise. Firstly, the villa. It's an immaculately restored building with such great attention to detail. Steve and Denise have furnished it beautifully and you can tell that they have spent a lot of time there as it's so well equipped. The aspect is incredible, with stunning views onto the hills and mountains which are so easy to enjoy from the beautiful terrace and pool. It's a short drive from Bagni di Lucca (10 mins) town down a winding road, or via a beautiful little footpath through the trees and mountainside. Guzzano is a stunning little village ontop of a ridge looking overlooking Bagni di Lucca. Lucca is just 30-40 mins away by car and it's a mesmorising place. I like my history and was in awe of the walled city - they weren't messing about! My other half loved the stunning shops and the chocolate market that popped up on a Saturday (dangerous) and the little lad enjoyed lapping the walls in his stroller. Great day out... We arrived at The Contented Tuscan (name of the villa) having had a tough journey and were immediately made welcome by Steve and Denise who met us at the door. They had prepared a beautiful little hamper with all you need for the first day or so and gave us a ton of handy information about the local area. Our little boy had his first proper fever on the way out and Steve offered to guide us down to the local medical centre if we ever needed it, night or day. I could go on and on about the hospitality of the two of them but am running out of words(!), but safe to say the trip on it's own to their beautiful villa would have been incredible, but their help made it so much more comfortable and turned an otherwise stressful week into an unforgettable first holiday as a family. We will without question go back and can't wait to see how the incredible countryside looks in the different seasons. Beautiful place, beautiful location, beautiful trip. Thanks for everything and see you again x

Magnifique maison, Magnifique région! Nous avons passé un merveilleux séjour dans une propriété où il ne manque rien! Steve et Denise veillent à équiper leur maison de tous les accessoires nécessaires au bon déroulement du séjour! C’est le top! Nous étions 4 (nous 2 et nos enfants). Nous avons séjourné dans une maison typique avec énormément de charme. La décoration ambiante respecte l’authenticité de la demeure. Le top du top: je pensais devoir me rendre au magasin dès notre arrivée afin de faire quelques courses. Ce qui est embêtant après tant de kilomètres... MAIS Steve et Denise vous accueillent avec un panier vous permettant de préparer un bon souper ainsi qu’un bon déjeuner! BRAVO!!!

The Contented Tuscan was everything it says and more. It is set in a beautiful setting with many sites to explore. Steve and Denise were fantastic hosts and we would highly recommend this property to anyone looking at this booking. This property is more like a home away from home rather than a holiday rental. It has everything you need. Everything is well kept and super clean. Gardens and pool are immaculate. The owners are there if you need them but otherwise you never see them so it does feel like a private house and pool. We will definitely return and this was one of the best holidays we have ever had. Our stay in this beautiful, well equipped, comfortable house in this amazing part of Northern Tuscany completely exceeded any expectations we may have had. The warm welcome we received from Steve and Denise, with our every possible need considered, began our 7 days (5th-12th May 2018). From our trips to Lucca and Florence (by train), to walking in the hills between M. Coronato and M. Fiorito, where there were wild narcissi scenting the air, it was all inspiring and relaxing in equal measure. We also had some lovely shorter evening walks, along to the next village and then up to the church at the top of the hill. The wildflowers were wonderful- orchids, pansies, red clover, wild strawberries and blue and purple vetches. We ate most of our meals on the terrace outside, and would sit outside for hours, gazing at the stunning views. The plunge -pool was perfect for cooling down when we returned from our walks. Thanks so much for a brilliant week!

Beautiful, traditionally decorated and fantastically well equipped Villa nestled in the Hillside village of Guzzano. Perfectly located for exploring the surrounding villages and for day trips to Lucca, Florence and the coast. Breathtaking mountain views from the pristinely kept terrace and pool. Steve and Denise couldn't have been more helpful and ensured we had a relaxing stay. We didn't want to leave and would highly recommend.

Although we have quite some experience, never before have we stayed in a house as perfect as this lovely holiday cottage in Tuscany. The views from the small but very well appointed garden are stunning, the house itself is beautifully decorated, very clean and abundantly equipped in every possible way, from the kitchen utensils to the vast collection of books and DVD's. Still best of all was the warm reception and the great service we enjoyed from our hosts Steve and Denise (including drinks in the fridge and a food package for the first day). Beautiful places as Florence, Lucca and Cinque Terre nearby, we still found it hard to tear ourselves away from this little piece of paradise.

We only had 4 days in mid-october to enjoy this nice house together with our two teenage-kids in the mountains near Bagna di Lucca. Dealing with the owners went smooth and easy, as it did when we arrived. They had made us a huge basket of food, which could have fed us for two days: and it was good too! Everything in the house was taken care of as well, really couldn't find something we missed. Overall a very nice experience with great hospitality by very friendly couple, we hope to return once during the summer!

This place was simply amazing. We arrived to our surprise with a big welcome basket with some supper and morning necessities to keep us going until the next day when we could do groceries. The owners welcomed us with open arms and although were around for any help they went about their business unnoticed. The attention to detail was such we have never seen before. They really cared about their guests. The home was just the way you see it in the pictures. The views beautiful and the location was great for day trips around the area. We would definitely return and highly recommend to anyone for an amazing stay.

We received a wonderfull and thoughtfull welcome from Steve and Denise on arrival. The stone house is charming, authentic and comfertable. All the things needed to make for a great stay were provided. We had one issue early on during our stay and when pointed out to Steve and Denise it was corrected immediately. Because the weather did not cooperate (rain) we did not get to enjoy the loveley patio and plunge pool but we gave the completely outfitted kitchen a good workout.

This property's stunning location is only matched by its comforts--and the owners' kindness and consideration. For 5 nights, we enjoyed staying in the picturesque and friendly village of Guzzano, just above Bagni di Lucca. We walked with our dog from one tiny hillside village to another, savoring stunning views and rustic stone buildings. This scrupulously clean and comfortable property provided the perfect base for exploring, with its gorgeous views, well-equipped kitchen, exposed beams, tile floors, carefully curated collections of art and decorative art, excellent beds, and modern bathrooms. The owners proved as welcoming as their hillside villa. They gave directions, answered questions, and even went with us to a local veterinarian to obtain a treatment our dog needed to enter our next travel destination. We cooked marvelous meals with local ingredients and bought amazing local wines from the wine shop opposite the farmer's market. The only down side? Leaving this carefully managed delightful property and the glorious hills around Bagni di Lucca after only five short days!
