Brown Bear Saloon & Motel

The location was good, about halfway between Anchorage and Girdwood on the main Seward Hwy. The main bed was comfortable and the shades kept most of the midnight sun out.

The cabin was musty and there was a lot of junk/random campers and boats on the property which was unsightly. Also it seems like maybe they are growing hemp/weed on the premises which led to a dank smell when you are outside. My son said the Futon was not super comfortable and the wi-fi didn't work.

Sarah in the Brown Bear was great! Made me feel comfortable.

A yellow jacket woke me with a shock. A bit more basic than I had anticipated

Perfectly located, just the basics, motel about twenty miles into the Turnagain Arm bay, mountains area. Halfway between Anchorage, and the Alyeska resort. Right on the bay, with fantastic views from the second level terrace. The bar restaurant is super cool, with a wild Alaskan C.B.G.B.s vibe, and decor.

We liked the location, the bed and the food.

We stayed in one of the log cabins which was cool, BUT the refrigerator and the range hood was dirty. The front door as well as the front door of the saloon was black with dirt. There is something called a magic eraser that would easily keep the doors clean. The thermostat was hidden on the wall behind the curtain and the room was cold when we arrived so it took awhile for the cabin to warm up (it was a very cold and windy day). We had to ask for an extra blanket as only a thin comforter was provided with a sheet (no blanket). We were not provided a key for the cabin and was told, "If you really want one I can see if I can find it." Since we weren't planning on leaving the room, I let it go but this was unprofessional. The dog in the bar was nice but the dog's bed was literally in the middle of the floor making it difficult to get to the counter to check in. It seemed like the bar was filled with locals who hang out there all the time rather than with tourists. I felt like I was in the twilight zone taken back to the 1960's or to the gold rush. It was a very strange experience and when I told my Alaskan friends about it they laughed and said that the reviews are probably all from the people who hang out at the bar. It's kind of unbelievable that this place got an excellent rating because I would give it a 5 and we normally stay in funky places not resorts. The price was way too high for the condition as well. I lived in a log house in Anchorage for 4 years in the 80's when the Bird House was there so it's not like I don't know anything about Alaska.
