Brown Bear Saloon & Motel

The host was very nice and even let us borrow the bear spray when we mentioned that we were going to hike in a nearby trail, she alerted us there might be a bear with two cubs (we did not meet them, haha).

WiFi did not work well.

Location was great. We walked to Birch and Alder for coffee in the morning (because there wasn’t any in the cabin) and there was a little state park across the street to check out. There were great safe walking paths to these locations.

Amenities which could easily improved upon are: a second dish towel in the kitchen area, many more hooks or towel bars to hang towels, etc. and more importantly, the ceiling fan feature was really nice EXCEPT there was not a setting to allow the fan to run without the light on! It was a warm sunny day and the fan would have been nice to have on at bedtime. And lastly, there wasn’t coffee in the container!

Location location location We had to drop someone at the airport early next morning. It's only 20 minutes away; almost easier than crossing town. The staff was friendly and helpful. Allowed us to put a fish box in the cooler over night. The cabin was rustic but very adequate; with a full kitchen. We came with prepared food, so only need to heat it up, but one could cook there. The bathroom was large, good shower HOT water.

We were less than comfortable on the beds. Both the queen up in the loft and the futon pull out were very soft lumpy mattresses. We didn't find the heat control until the morning. Could have used it in the night. (look on the railing of the loft!) The stairs to the loft are a bit wierd. Certainly safe and steady, but perhaps not usual depth? something made them feel shaky for our older legs. NOTE: this was the larger cabin; they have another cabin and the motel rooms above the tavern. They may be quite different.

It was clean and had all the essentials

The room was very small and basic… aged It was ok to sleep there but it didn’t invite for staying in that room…
