Ashokam Beach Resort Varkala - Best Ocean View

I visited this place on 14th Sept'26 The photos shown on Agoda and the actual property are quite different. The moment you enter the property, it gives you more of a “khandar” (abandoned/neglected place) vibe rather than the pleasant atmosphere shown in the pictures. The property is also located in a very secluded area with almost no activities, small shops, cafés, or restaurants nearby, which can be inconvenient, especially if you are travelling with family or children. Booking & Extra Charges I booked a Premium Deluxe Room through Agoda based on the photos and the description, which clearly showed accommodation for 2 pax. We were 2 adults travelling with our 7-year-old child, and we did not require an extra bed. However, after completing the booking, the reservation showed accommodation for only 1 pax. I immediately tried calling the property to clarify this and also wanted to confirm whether there would be any charges for early check-in. Unfortunately, the phone number provided on Agoda was not working, and there was no response throughout the day. When we arrived at the property, we were told that the manager had apparently left with the business phone, so there was no way to clarify the matter beforehand. We were then charged ₹1,000 for early check-in, which felt unfair because we had genuinely tried contacting the property in advance. Later in the evening, their “brilliant finance guy” (I unfortunately don't remember his name 😑) discovered that our booking apparently covered only one person. We were then asked to pay another ₹500 for the second adult. So, our total cost came to: xxx (initial booking) + ₹1,000 (early check-in) + ₹500 (additional adult) = xxx And that was basically for a sea-facing room. Service & Maintenance This is another area you should definitely consider before booking: - Wi-Fi was extremely unstable. - The TV wouldn't work properly because it depended on the Wi-Fi. - We specifically wanted the TV so our child could stay entertained without being on the phone constantly, but that wasn't really possible. - You should have a good mobile network because you cannot depend on the property's Wi-Fi. - The room itself was not particularly clean. Bathroom was not clean. - The balcony was quite disappointing. The wall had food and oil stains, and the dining table was covered in what looked like oil from previous food. - It honestly felt as though the balcony/dining area had not been properly cleaned before our check-in. We initially thought perhaps the staff had simply missed cleaning the area before our arrival, so I requested another staff member to clean it. To be fair, most of the staff members were polite and helpful. The only person we had an unpleasant experience with was the finance guy, who seemed rather full of himself and even claimed to be an ex-Agoda employee 😂 now i wonder why he left Agoda and joined this place 😅 Food Another important point: the restaurant was under renovation during our stay. Because of this, only breakfast was available and there were no proper lunch/dinner options at the property. You could order through Zomato, but by evening, even that wasn't something you could reliably depend on. There are also very few food options nearby, with no proper restaurants or cafés within roughly 1 km. Luckily, one of the staff members recommended Cafe Mimosa, and thankfully they were able to deliver food to us. Their food was actually really good, so that was one positive experience. Overall Experience If your only priority is a nice sea view and you don't mind being in a secluded location without proper food, entertainment, reliable Wi-Fi, or nearby shops, you may consider this property. But if you're travelling with family or children and expect the property to look and feel like the photos, have good maintenance, reliable Wi-Fi, food availability, and convenient surroundings, please keep all of the above points in mind before booking. Nice stay , we enjoyed the beach view

Nothing comes close to the view compared to this property in all of Varkala. The property is preferable for people who want to chill and have fun, has a nice pool and has a lovely beach view to it. Edava beach is a 5 mins walk. The restaurant only offers South Indian food and does not have a live kitchen but it was enough for me with their buffet offering Idli, Idiyappam, Sambhar, Eggs, Juice, Chutyney, Chai and Jelly (Yes!). The staff knows their shortcomings but are willing to help. Overall loved my stay.

Nothing to say much, after checking in our expecations were broken, and it was our first trip after marriage, we checked out within 1 hour because of the service and cleanliness they have provided for us. Ashokam beach resort was SHOKAM. You better convert this to a warehouse storage or something.
