Unicorn, Gunthorpe by Marston's Inns

After reading the previous reviews the others must have serious issues with themselves. This hotel is exactly what it says. It is a quaint older style pub that has rooms for accommodation. The twin room we had was as clean as a whistle and so was the bathroom. More than enough towels and mats , all of which were pristine white and clean. Shower gel and soap in the bathroom was very good as was the shower which was over the bath, one issue, the bath is very slippy when wet and needed a non slip mat, or at least a grab handle . The bed linen clean , and pure white as was the duvet and pillows , 2 extra in the wardrobe too. The room was large and plenty of space and light, large flat tv, a kettle and tea & coffee making facility, there was also a fan in the room, given the heat wave we have just had was very thoughtful. Our room was on the 1st floor and overlooked the access road to the rear carpark, we didn't come for the view , we needed an overnight stay . This room was very quiet and comfortable, this was room 9. We arrived early and couldn't check in till 2 pm, but they came to us and said we could a few minutes later as housekeeping had completed . We didn't eat in the restaurant that night as we were invited out but breakfast the next morning was most satisfying full English with toast and tea or coffee and very reasonably priced too , well cooked and presented, normally this type of breakfast gets let down by the quality of the sausages but these were quite good and actually contained meat. Overall our stay was more than satisfactory and would recommend anyone to stay at the Unicorn Hotel if they were in that area. The bonus too was the River Trent is literally over thd road and you can walk along should you wish. I point they need to attend to. The tables in the restaurant are in desperate need of restoration, the lacquer on the surface has deteriorated so much they are sticky to touch. They only need sanding and either re lacquering of sanding and waxing. This was the only complaint I would have, easily remedied. Wouldn't stop me going again if I was in that area.

The room was clean but a little dated. Nice view overlooking the river. The staff were very helpful. Good to have the pub food downstairs. Could do with a few more vegan dishes on the menu.

I love this place. So comfortable, exceptionally clean and cosy.

No liquid soap in dispenser. Cups not cleaned thoroughly. Shower grouting needed a good clean. Left the curtains open as we were not overlooked they looked very fragile. Did not complain at the time. We were up very early worked all day we needed ashower
