The Monkey Tree is such a beautiful spot. A historic hotel that clearly needs staff and some upkeep to make it top notch.
Unfortunately during my stay the room and the facilities were substandard for the prices. Weekend pricing is much higher, and I stayed during the week. If I had reserved this superior room for the weekend I would have been even more disappointed. The price for weekend is well over 1000 dollars. Not worth it.
The facility is a “contactless” hotel. There is absolutely zero staff at the site. When I arrived I saw a repairman who couldn’t contact anyone with the company online to let him into the room. There is an office in front but it’s not staffed. During the 2 days I stayed, no one came to staff the office.
The room was quite a disappointment . The good parts were that the superior room is large and the kitchenette a lovely feature. We also loved the vintage furniture in the room. However you can tell the site wasn’t clean enough and needed some improvements.
The room had 3 flies flying around inside when we got in. The windows also had dead flys from prior lifetimes circling this room. The bed had a noticeable stain on the spring box and the ceiling and other parts were quite scratched and in need of new paint.
The front of the room has a small swamp cooler that was affixed to the front window area. It wasn’t sealed very well and leaked water into the door entry area. Further it also had an air pipe that went to the window and was full of tape securing it. It was quite a shoddy job that I would expect to see at a Motel 6. Not here.
Also the parking lot is a shambles. Cracked pavement and no clear lines for cars. The profit from this hotel clearly is not going into the facility at all.
Palm Springs is a wonderful place to stay, and it is blessed to have many nicer properties for less cost and with actual staff. It’s sad to see this storied hotel be neglected by Avantstay. But here it is.
I hope they sell the property to someone who will actually care for it in the manner it should be.
