The Knife and Cleaver

I booked online and there was supposed to be breakfast included , usual full English type but we were given a bag of continental bits, when we asked the staff they said they are trialing no cooked breakfast that week, i could of paid half the price for the same thing , don’t get me wrong the main meal was lovely and worth every penny.

We booked to stay well in advance and only on arrival were told that a 30th birthday party was being held right outside our door - the team even assumed we were part of this party. We were anxious when going out for dinner regarding what we might return to and therefore didn’t drink. When we returned there were people almost right up against our door, smoking, swearing, and having a good time. We had to squeeze through them to get to our room, even with the door shut it sounded like they were in the room with us and could hear them discussing us. This made us exceptionally uncomfortable and we needed to leave. To be clear, they should absolutely be enjoying themselves at a 30th birthday - the knife and cleaver however should have contacted us to let us know that our room was located outside next to the party and smoking area, we would have made alternative arrangements had we known. I went into the pub to let the host know, they said they could ask those outside to move, but we didn’t think it was right to do that, and my partner was already in the car as it was such an awful experience. I have been informed there was also no rooms left to move us into. On arriving home I contacted the knife and cleaver and explained. I said I might consider staying in the future which they took as an opportunity to over a complimentary stay (which is fair), however we have no plans for needing to stay in the area for at least the next couple of years and so I politely asked for a refund instead (minus commission they may have paid to the booking site, which I thought was fair). We had paid for an upgraded room and breakfast (which we didn’t have) and spent money on some drinks and nibbles at the bar (not asking for that to be refunded just for context). My request for a fair refund was ignored, my follow-up email a week later, was also ignored. I have emailed privately to say how disappointed I am and that I would now leave a review that takes in the whole experience. Feedback: 1. if you have a room booked that is right next to a big party, let those guests know. Not everyone wants to go to sleep at midnight. 2. Monitor large parties and/or your rooms to make sure guests aren’t made to feel uncomfortable. 3. When someone emails politely and fairly with a concern or complaint, respond in kind. This public review will now be on multiple sites and potentially cost you more than the refund would have. Again, as said in my email, I still hold out hope this can be resolved amicably and I wish the team a lovely Christmas

our stay was for only one night ; we arrived in the afternoon, reception was smooth we were escorted to our courtyard facing room which was clean and tidy, the bed was very comfortable we had a very nice lunch. the evening was quiet, the inclusive breakfast had a good selection and was very tasty
