If you’re looking for a decent place on a budget, then this is it! Centrally located downtown Memphis it’s ideal, a little dated and moldy but a great place to rest your head. The staff was okay, just seemed preoccupied and not focused on Customer Service as much as I like. (but I’m a lil spoiled). I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking for an upscale experience, but if you’re traveling on a budget the YES, this is the place to do it.
Just make sure. you get to the gym early otherwise it ain’t happening!

Great location next to the river. Rooms are larger than normative. Remarkable management team who have been together for long period of time. Tremendous customer service by both managers Mike and Cynthia! For the price! The best hotel in downtown Memphis!

I arrived at the Hu Hotel at 6 PM with a confirmed reservation for a 950 sq ft King Suite with a river view — booked well in advance. The front desk agent, Eboni, checked me in, charged my card for incidentals, and handed over the keys without a word of concern. When I went to the room to check it out before bringing up my bags, I discovered I had been placed in a cramped standard queen room, barely 300 sq ft, with no river view.
When I returned to the desk, I was told, “We tried to call you.” I had received no call, voicemail, or email. More importantly, if they knew there was an issue with my reservation, it should have been disclosed immediately upon check-in — not hidden behind an awkward surprise.
I ended up scrambling to find another hotel outside of downtown. It was smaller and more expensive, but I had no choice.
In hindsight, I may have dodged a bullet. From what I experienced, the property doesn’t live up to the standards you’d expect at this price point. If my first impressions were this disappointing, I can only imagine how the rest of the stay might have gone. I won’t be returning — and I suggest future guests book with caution.
