if your wallet's lite, and driving around the city at night makes you a little edgy the surf motel is a decent place to crash. it's in the marina amidst a cluster of other kitschy, musty, non descript, independent motels many of which remind me of atlantic city in the '70's.. without all the concessions, or the boardwalk.. no crime.. got a bunch of bars up and down the block, but you might need to invent an interesting reason for your visit should your friends inquire. honestly the marina in january is not too different from say tulsa.. or toledo.. in january. the weather *might* be better in san fran, but it's the legal weed that keeps em coming back.. for now anyway. .. so if youre already there, and local traffic is making you feel like youre going to have a stroke, head over to the surf.. where the parking is free(!) the noise is nada, and a good night's sleep is like medicine for your tired mind.

I do not recommend this place. I have not been able to rest well because I can hear the cars and people on the second floor and there is something on the mattresses since I have hives on my body. Something is itching me and it is horrible. And the saddest thing is that I made a reservation for several days and they won't return the money. So I have to stay here and let the bugs keep eating me.
