Coogee Beachside Hostel

Being minutes from the beach for this price is divine! The bed really smelled though, so I had to sleep on my towel. But for the location and value for money, it was well worth it. Being a hostel, you’d be spending most of the time out, sunset to sunrise at the beach

Cleanliness and maintenance don’t exist

Too pricey for a hostel, I have never seen staff once on site. Never did a proper check in, even if I arrived within the allocated time for in-person check in. Phone number provided on website was not reachable. Bin and fridge in the room had not been emptied and drawers were full of empty cans. No towels were provided, despite the property description mentioning they would be. Entrance door needed oil and makes very loud noise every time someone opens it. Not a bad hostel environment itself, toilets and shower areas were clean, but definitely not good enough for the price.

The images on the listing are quite deceptive as they must have been taken years ago. The double room was fine but very basic, couple stains on duvet, old pillows, no lamps, no bedside tables, old clothes rack, no mirror, random TV bracket on the wall - no cosy like the pictures show at all. Can't speak on the pod rooms. There's a unisex bathroom that could really use some TLC, just felt like it needs a good scrub, stains on walls, old water sits on the floor, one little sink, old bath mat on the floor. The kitchen was alright. Lots of random things lying around in hallways. If you're looking for somewhere cheap (and it is cheaper than a lot of other places) for a few nights it does the job but compared to hostels we've previously stayed in it is lacking and needs some loving to make it feel welcoming. Definitely feels like somewhere people live longer term so that may suit you but if you're looking for your first hostel to stay in Sydney I'd look elsewhere.
