Poacher's Barn

On arrival I was greeted by a chap sitting at the end of the bar who informed me the staff were busy out the back dealing with a party. He continued chatting to his friend and drinking. When a young man finally emerged and asked my name he handed the key to the chap sat at the bar. It was he who took me into the building next door and show me to my room. Why he couldn't have done this himself straight away is beyond me. So, to the room. I was led through what I think was a dining area up some stairs and into a very dated room. Unfortunately, or conveniently the photo uploader keeps showing an error message. I took quite a few pictures of the room. The plastic bottle of hand soap wedging the old sash window open. The kettle and tea making facilities on the shelves nowhere near a power outlet. You have to put the kettle on the floor next to the sink in order to plug it in. The broken bed head on the single bed in the room. The sliding wardrobe door hanging off its runners. Oh yes, the place needs an upgrade or a wrecking ball, which ever works out the cheapest. I read through the food reviews and despite having blisters and a saw knee from doing the Cleveland Way I hobbled a mile up the road to the local pizza/kebab takeaway. I went to the bar to ask the staff is there was a fan I could have in the room to cool it down. Told they didn't have any. Howay! A desk top fan or floor fan costs about £30. Not a massive investment for your guests. Oh and no wifi either. I've been in hotels in Tanzania with better facilities. And that was back in the 90's. All in all a shoddy place in need of some investment. Would not recommend.
