A landmark hotel for SF. Hard to stay anywhere else. Great people working here too. I’ll be back.

We went for a one night staycation and enjoyed our stay. Location is to be expected for the Tenderloin so if you take that into consideration it was fine. Parking is in a lot that is monitored 24/7 by the front desk. The staff was really nice and helpful. Iconic hotel with so much history and the pool area is a beautiful oasis in the city. It was a little loud at night because the pool is open until midnight so if you are sensitive bring ear plugs. Loved the free donuts and coffee and late 12 o’clock check out. I really hope it doesn’t close at the end of the year.

Do not stay here if you’re wanting a quiet, relaxing hotel in a safe area of San Fransisco. I’m not one to write reviews however, I feel obliged to warn others about my experience. The hotel itself is quirky with character, and surprisingly has some good reviews which is the reason I chose this accomodation. The communal pool and courtyard area is cool however the noise from the courtyard travels very easily and because pool is open until 11 PM you will definitely hear other guests until late at night. The room was comfortable and clean. The thing that turned my stay into a living nightmare was the 4/20 ‘rave’ event the hotel hosted on the Easter Sunday of my stay. Prior to checking into the hotel, I was not advised that there would be a music event followed by a late night private party until 2 AM in the hotel courtyard. Had I known this information prior to arriving, I would have booked alternate accomodation. When checking in, I was told about the 420 event and that they were expecting over 300 people. The front desk as well as the letter in the room confirmed the noise would ensue between 1-6 PM. I had planned my day to avoid the event and got back to the hotel just after 6pm. I was then told by the front desk the music would stop at 8 PM. I’m writing this review now at 11:30 PM and the windows are still shaking due to the drum and bass blasting from the loudspeakers outside. I called the front desk and they’ve confirmed the private party will end at 2 AM. Other hotel guests were standing outside my door drinking and talking until after 3 AM in the morning. The most baffling part was every time I looked outside the window throughout the day, there were no more than 20 people standing around the courtyard smoking and dancing to the DJ blasting bass heavy music. It was the most bizarre and ridiculous thing I’ve ever witnessed. I’m not sure why the hotel wouldn’t just cancel the event all together due to such a dismal turnout? Because they’ve now lost a returning guest and potentially future guests just to please a couple dozen ‘ravers’ for a 420 celebration. I left the last night of my 2 week holiday with no sleep and a throbbing migraine due to the thumping EDM trance music wishing I had never booked this hotel in the first place.
