A very beautiful place. We visited in the middle of winter, so the landscape was ultra snowy and enchanting. A nice variety of onsen, and the staff are very helpful.

It’s a rare gem, nested in the forest close to Hanamaki, still very local, away from the tourist crowds. I absolutely love this place. We were fortunate to stay in the peony room which was authentic, charming, and beautiful. Here you can still experience the feeling of true Japan (I used to live in the Japanese countryside decades ago, and I find it harder and harder to find places that still retains that pure Japanese charm). Together with the adjacent Tojiya the ryokan has many beautiful onsen facilities with lovely water. There are two spa facilities as well within the complex, both offer nice massages and relaxing treatments. The Ghibli exhibition was one of the highlights of our stay. The whole onsen actually feels so Ghibli. The kaiseki dinner was fantastic and the staff were courteous. The shuttle was very comfortable both ways. There are only two negatives I can mention: there was a lingering sewage smell in the corridor of our room, and the hotel has no email address so contacting them (for example for shuttle booking) is very difficult if you are not residing in Japan. Overall it was a beautiful experience. Thank you Oosawa onsen!
