    I hear everything—the constant noise of slamming doors, snoring, and coughing. It was unbearable. The bathroom cleaning was unacceptable; the trash overflowing with paper and hairs all over the large vanity (the only one). I believe I got sick because of the neighbor who was coughing for two consecutive nights. Without a roof overhead, germs can easily spread.

    Definitely small rooms. And if you are a light sleeper it might not be for you. You are in the center area of New York. Times Square is a 10 minute subway ride and the World Trade Center is about the same.

    I'm a frequent hostel traveler, but wouldn't stay here again. First, I booked a room on the all-women floor and was put on the floor with the men, because the hotel was "sold out." There is no elevator, you have to carry your luggage up four flights of stairs. The room is very small which is fine, but the bathrooms are only one toilet and shower per floor. If you need to shower after someone, expect the entire room to be wet and hair is always stuck on the walls of in the drain. Every day there's hair. Ironically the toilets were always clean, but the showers made me shudder. There's no common area to gather and meet new people, not even chairs to sit around outside. So the hostel culture is just not there. Also the doors shut very loudly! So when people are trickling in at night or leaving early in the morning you can hear doors opening and slamming shut every single time. Smells and snoring also carries over because of the open roofs. Just pay more for a real hotel.
