Mayan Monkey Tulum - Adults Only

I think for the price I paid it was okay, but I think they should advertise the price they want you to pay, not when you arrive tell you they want 100 pesos extra per night. Like I don't mind paying extra if you tell me at the time I booked, not when I come to check in I suddenly have to pay something even though I already paid in advance. I'd say the hostel is great for groups, because it has a clean pool a bar a (not very well equipped kitchen, lots of equipment is broken). But the communal areas are very large and good for groups travelling together not ideal for solo travellers. The hostel is approximately the size of a Hilton hotel so it's not small at all. Could benefit from doing something about the mosquitos that gather in the kitchen and communal area for hostel guest only. Mosquito coils or something should do it. The dorms all come with an ensuite which are pretty spacious and nice. The only thing that was a little weird was that someone kept taking our wet bathing suits to reception and I forgot to check on the day I checked out so now I am missing half a bathing suit and a pair of denim shirt which is a bit annoying I wish they wouldn't do this. Also it's pretty hard to sleep here as music is typically playing extremely loudly until very late at night. And I wouldn't recommend this place for digital nomads because the co working space also doubles as the only space with air conditioning and without mosquitos except for the dorms, so it's generally used by people to eat without getting attacked. Also it's not particularly quiet due to being an aspiring party hostel.

I lovedddd Mayan Monkey. They have daily free activities - like making ceviche (pic above), yoga, dj classes, other things that come up. The pool and bar area is nice. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The beds are comfy and the lay out of the 12 bed dorm makes it feel more like a 4-6 bed dorm in a good way. It is clean and gorgeous. Very good value. It is loud at night so if you’re a light sleeper maybe ask if you can be in a room further back as it’s still a party hostel. I would recommend it for your stay in Tulum for sure.

Great facilities and good staff, just quite far from the town and the beaches. Also don’t hire bikes through the hostel it’s much cheaper outside on the road

The hostel pool is nice and one of the cleanest I've seen in Mexico, in fact the whole hostel is extremely clean and the pool stays open till midnight. There is a communal area around the pool and bar area and a communal area inside the hostel only for guests but while it is well decorated it is absolutely full of mosquitoes, so no one uses this area once it starts to get dark. However it is the only place you can eat as you are not allowed to eat in the communal area by the pool unless you are buying food from the hostel bar. All rooms in the hostel are ensuite, and the dormitories are modern and air conditioned 24 hours. One thing to mention is that I am 175cm and both my head and feet would touch each end of the dorm bed, something to consider if you are taller than me. Didn't really have a social vibe so not good for solo travellers, most of the activities were cancelled when I was there and they had this weird thing about not giving you anywhere to dry wet bathing suits, even though they have a pool, they'd go around the hostel and collect them all and keep them in a wet pile at reception. I don't think all mine successfully made it back with me. I'm not sure this hostel is suitable for those who come to Tulum to relax and like to sleep early because they played loud music until late every night (3 out of 4), but they did start turning the volume down after the first night, where you could hear the music from 2 blocks away until 3am. Literally, I was hungry so I went for taco late. I'm sure they got noise complaints because it's located on a main highway but in a residential area. I have mixed feelings about this hostel, they do have a kitchen, with alot of fridge space, but a lot of the cooking equipment is broken, one evening there were six of us sitting in a circle sharing 1 fork. Lol and there are two hobs but only one works. And the toaster is broken. I noticed as a avo toast addict. This was very distressing for me. Even though I have mixed feelings about this hostel, I would stay again with friends. But not for a *** a night. Lol.
