Every time I return to Penang, I choose Istay Hotel. This is my seventh year staying here. Even after it stopped operating during the pandemic and later reopened, I still chose to come back. The main reason is its central location—just a few steps away from plenty of great local food. The hotel itself is not particularly luxurious or elegant, but the rooms are comfortable and ideal for a short stay of a few days. The background music that used to play in the hotel has stopped at night， making it much quieter now, and the TV channels have also improved. Previously, whenever I stayed for five or six days, the hotel was kind enough to offer me one complimentary laundry service. I came back three times last year, and this year I stayed for a week, but I was not offered the free laundry service anymore. The reason is that the hotel has installed self-service washing machines, and the machines automatically use softener. As I have sensitive skin, I cannot use it. Even for the bedsheets and towels in the room, I have to inform them in advance. I’m very grateful to the housekeeping auntie for specially preparing bedsheets without softener for me. Even though I stay here three times a year, I have never received any loyalty offer. It seems that building customer loyalty is not their focus. TOO BAD! A friendly reminder: booking directly with the hotel is about *** Riggits more expensive than booking through ***, so I recommend booking online ahead. Overall, the hotel is reasonably priced, and with its excellent location, it is still worth recommending.
