Ikoi Ryokan

It was almost shocking to experience such a bad service especially the staffs in general. The whole time we were there, we felt we were not welcome. The staffs seemed that they don't bother to communicate with their customer. We had to use translating apps to trying to communicate but their response was unwilling if not pretend not to understand. I have never experience such a bad service anywhere in the world, not to mention in Japan.

Great food and wonderful to have private small onsen attached to room.

​I recently stayed at Ikoi Ryokan with my parents. While the overall facilities and the ryokan itself were pleasant, the service we experienced during dinner was quite disappointing and unprofessional. ​The Issue: Prior to our arrival, I had sent an email requesting a menu adjustment—specifically that only one person in our party of three could eat horse meat sashimi. However, when dinner was served, all three of us were given the horse meat. ​The Service Experience: When I requested a change based on my previous email, the staff's response was unexpected. Instead of verifying their records, they repeatedly questioned me during the meal, asking for proof of the email. Even when I explained I was tired and asked them to check their own system, they insisted that they "received too many emails" and told me to find it myself. ​I had to spend several minutes searching my inbox in front of my parents, which completely interrupted our family dinner. It was only after I presented the email that they apologized and replaced the dish with tofu. ​Conclusion: The following day, I spoke with the manager and received a formal apology, which I appreciated. Aside from this incident, other aspects of the stay were fine. However, I hope the management improves their communication and guest handling during meals so that others don't have their dining experience interrupted by staff errors.
