Hotel RIVIERA SHISHIKUI

The hotel is in one of the most beautiful locations. The first room was a but smelly with cigarette smoke. The second room was great, however the room is tired! The carpet was well used and stained from years of use and needs an upgrade. Other than that omg the view is spectacular!

It was a little bit off our pilgrimage route, but the onsen was worth it. We could also do our laundry and seven eleven is five min walk away.

Excellent hotel. Has a 1970s flair to it. But still with modern accommodations including AC. Room design is also older which means larger and with room for chairs and even a small sofa. Views and windows overlook the beach with associated calm wave sounds with the window open. Large onsen with several different pools at different heats as well as a steam sauna. Onsen is included with hotel stay but otherwise 800 yen for adults. Staff was unfailingly courteous.

I booked hotel Riviera because of its location. We are traveling from Kochi to Shodo Island by car and that seemed like a good midpoint stay sense it is our first time here on the island. The price seemed reasonable enough and the images on Agoda made scene. When we arrived, my first impression which I shared with my wife was that somebody is washing money. It seemed like they opened the hotel in the late 70s or early 80s and never did any upkeep after that. The Carpet is worn, the stained and faded wallpaper is peeling in places , the furniture looks like it came from a rummage sale and fills that way too. Neither my wife nor I had a good nights sleep because of the ridiculously springy jello beds. There was a balcony overlooking the ocean, which I really appreciated, but you couldn’t really walk on the balcony because of the loose gravel concrete. Every time I stepped out there, not only was it uncomfortable for my feet, but I also dragged in small pebbles. That night, we went down to the Hot Spring, which is free, and as I was lying there, enjoying the water, it struck me that this place is kind of like the grand Budapest from the film but a lot less grand, and without the characters. By the second day, I felt like I was visiting my benevolent grandfather and grandmother, whose home had slipped away into time forgotten by a new generation. It was stiffly charming. When I was a kid, my twin sister, and I loved going to her grandparents house, but not because we wanted to sit in their house, we loved to run around in the garden and pick the green peas and eat them off the vine. Hotel Riviera is like this. If we were to go back, it would be because of the spa and its location across from the beach. I hope my sincere review in the morning before I had my coffee which I dictated into my cell phone helps in your decision .
