If you're looking for a more affordable alternative to the central Munich hotels - we ended up going there during Oktoberfest when prices were exorbitant - then you can't go wrong with the Konig Ludwig II. We had a nice big room, clean, comfy bed, modern decor, the staff were friendly, the breakfast was excellent, and although the hotel appears to be a long way from the city centre, it's literally right next to the U-Bahn station so only it's only half an hour away. If we ever come back to Munich, we'll be back. If you're planning to watch football, it's also only two stops and 10 minutes from Frottmaning station which is where you get off for the Allianz Arena.
