Great Location & Food, But Some Practical Challenges
I’m a bit undecided about this hotel because it has both strong positives and some drawbacks.
Location:
If you want to stay inside the castle walls, this is probably the best spot. Parking and taxi access are much easier compared to other places inside the castle.
Rooms:
There are only four rooms, and mine was extremely small – I really had to watch my steps so I wouldn’t bump into the bed. The bathroom was also very small, and I worried about slipping. The steps up to the room were a little steep and tricky for me, so I had to be careful.
Noise:
From May to October, bus tours often book the entire restaurant, which surrounds about 75% of the first floor. The sound travels right up the hallway to the rooms. One night there was even a live band. Luckily, everything stopped around 10 PM, but if you’re sensitive to noise, keep this in mind.
Payments:
It felt a bit inconvenient that you can pay for food by credit card but not for the room itself. I had to find a way to pay in US dollars, which was a hassle.
Food & Service:
The owner runs almost everything himself, and he was extremely friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The food was excellent — I especially enjoyed the stuffed peppers, vegetable casserole, and zucchini pie. The meatballs were good, and the yogurt casserole was fine, though a bit sour (as expected with yogurt). Eating outside on the patio was a real treat, and the house wine was surprisingly good.
Overall:
I’m not unhappy with the place, and for two nights it was a good experience. I’d recommend it to anyone who prioritizes location and food and doesn’t mind small rooms, some noise, and the steep steps.
