I loved my stay at this Hotel Hikyounoyu!!! The onsen was amazing and has a lovely view of the mountains. It was only a 20-30 min walk to the vine bridge. The bus stops right at the hotel so it was so convenient all around!!! Less than a 5 minute walk there is Forest Adventure Park below the hotel. I highly recommend doing the canoeing, zip lining, and RIDE the ladybugs!!!! It gives an awesome view of the gorges!!! I would have stayed a 3rd night, but I had to leave to my next location. I would definitely book this again next time I come back to Iya Valley!!! Highly recommend this hotel for value for your money. The other hotels are way overpriced. I absolutely loved the hotel!!!

This place has been the 1 hotel in all of our Japan trip that I wanted to leave and check in to a hotel elsewhere. The hotel is run down, stains on carpets everywhere, marks on walls and just a general run down look. We booked a Japanese room in the annexe and the place reeked of stale cigarette’s. The room was meant to be non smoking, well I guess that wasn’t the case 10-20 years ago, however the hotel hasn’t been renovated or deep cleaned since. So the deep rooted smell of cigarettes lingers. The rooms are a decent size and if you have a view it’s ok, however you can not open a room for fear of letting in bugs (see photo). Also don’t expect ac as it’s all controlled by the hotel. The futon are the most uncomfortable I’ve “not” slept on, as they are so thin. Clothes stunk of the smell the following day, sadly as we checked in late there was little we could do, thank goodness we did check in late. Dinner was average at best, sushi was poor and very small portions. Breakfast on the other hand was good. Over all I wouldn’t stay ever again and would advise others not to. Even the onsen was very run down. Plus for over £***a night it was a total rip off

Hi I found the reception and restaurant staff are super polite. The meals come with the booking are value for money. It is like a regular Japanese meal, the location with a mountain view makes it more enjoyable. The onsen is spacious and good enough. The onsen outdoors is petit but is still good for a few people. I could hear sound of wild boar or monkey when I was enjoying the hot spring outdoors. It is totally safe. I was a bit surprise when I took the transfer at the station. The driver didn't realise me waiting for the shuttle till I asked. No problem but always asked :) It will be nicer if the lobby coffee machine is open in the morning or the morning place has such machine for hotel guests. After all, it is a good experience.

The whole hotel gives a strong hospital vibe. Even the yukatas are light green like a hospital gown. The onsen was really big and temperature was perfect BUT felt like a public pool and didn’t feel clean at all. There wasn’t even drinking water available. The ceiling of the women’s onsen was all rusty and peeled it looked gross it really grossed me out and I couldn’t even relax in the water. The dinner was ok but the breakfast barely had any western style foods (only stale bread and supermarket croissants, and for some reason corn soup?!). The beds had the hardest mattresses I have ever felt in my life and we slept really bad.
