Grand Hotel Eurasia

We landed and stayed only one night before continuing to another town. Still, the front desk staff were very helpful arranging our travel in English, and the room was spacious and comfortable. We imagine this was the Almaty hotel back in its heyday. We didn't make full use of the facility but would happily stay again!

This was one of the worst hotel experiences I have had. From the moment of check-in, the problems continued throughout my stay, and the hotel showed very little urgency or willingness to resolve them. 1. Check-in disaster – 2 hours with no solution I had two separate bookings at the hotel. When I arrived at reception, the staff told me that they could only find one booking in their system. I spent approximately two hours at reception trying to resolve this. Despite showing the booking information and explaining the situation, there was no meaningful solution. Eventually, I insisted that they simply book an additional room. Suddenly, the response was essentially: “Okay, no problem.” What makes this even more frustrating is that I was then told I did not have to pay for the additional room. So I have to ask: if there was no issue with providing another room, why was I left standing at reception for two hours in the first place? 2. Both rooms initially provided were unacceptable After finally getting the rooms, the situation became even worse. The two rooms I was checked into were not properly usable. They had broken air conditioning and no window, among other issues. I had to ask hotel staff to come and see the condition themselves. They acknowledged the problems but told me that they could not fix them until the next day and that there was no other room available to move to. So despite paying for a hotel room, I was effectively forced to sleep in an unacceptable room overnight and wait until another room became available the following day. 3. New room – terrible Wi-Fi and repeated electricity failures The room available the next day was better, but the problems absolutely did not end there. The Wi-Fi was horrendous, making it extremely difficult to use the internet normally. Even worse, the electricity repeatedly shut down throughout the room. The power also went out across the entire floor, including during the night while guests were sleeping. This is not what I would consider an acceptable hotel experience, regardless of the price. 4. Customer service and problem-solving were extremely disappointing What disappointed me most was not just the number of problems, but how they were handled. A hotel can experience technical issues. What matters is how the hotel responds to guests when something goes wrong. In this case, I experienced: 2 hours wasted at check-in Confusion regarding my bookings Rooms with broken air conditioning Rooms with no window No immediate alternative room Being forced to stay overnight in an unacceptable room Extremely poor Wi-Fi Repeated power/electricity outages Electricity outages affecting the whole floor Very poor problem-solving and communication I have also requested a refund/compensation for this experience, although honestly, at this point I feel like getting a refund may be nothing more than a dream. Final recommendation: STAY AWAY If you are searching for Grand Eurasia Hotel Almaty, Grand Eurasia Hotel Almaty reviews, where to stay in Almaty, or a hotel in Almaty, please consider this experience before making your booking. For me, this hotel was absolutely not worth the money, time, or frustration. My recommendation: STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL. There are many accommodation options in Almaty, and based on my experience, I would strongly recommend choosing another hotel rather than taking the risk of experiencing the same problems. ⭐ 1/5 – Would not stay here again.
