Fitz&Oritz Home Stay

I stayed at this accomodation for one night after seeking cheap single room for myself as I am travelling alone. It was very safe and room had lock. Very good breakfast ready around 7am and lovely and peaceful area. Only downside is the location - buses don’t normally drive off the main road up to this home, I had to wait 30 mins for a driver to take me there and paid extra 300 vatu total so not too much in reality.

Everything was perfect except the logistics. It's kinda far from the main road with no means of getting into town other than hiking up a hill. Met some friendly locals who offered to give me a ride .locals in Vanuatu are straight up friendly and helpful.

This was our first stay in Vanuatu, so it was also our first impression of the country. We were really excited about this place because we love traveling and staying in homestays where guests are welcomed into a local environment. However, as soon as we arrived, we wondered if we had come to the wrong place. The first woman we saw was yelling at a young man, which made us feel uncomfortable, especially since it seemed like we had done something wrong. The young man then came over and told us to use the stairs, plus it was raining. Shortly afterward, he came upstairs and gave us the key. The next morning, we woke up and found that our breakfast was already cold. We hadn’t been told what time breakfast was served. We stayed for three nights, and throughout our stay, whenever we were around the family, we never even received a simple “hello” or “good afternoon.” The moment that really confirmed the lack of hospitality for us happened when we were returning to the accommodation and saw the woman from a distance. We thought, “This will finally be our chance to say hello.” But as soon as she noticed us arriving, she simply went inside. To be fair, the accommodation itself has some positive points. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the breakfast is tasty, the Wi-Fi works well, and there is hot water in the shower. The location, as other guests have mentioned, is not very convenient. There is basically nothing nearby, so we would only recommend staying here if you have a car. After visiting 52 countries, this was one of the worst experiences we’ve had in terms of hospitality. At no point during our three-night stay did we feel genuinely welcomed. It’s especially disappointing because we create travel content and always encourage our subscribers to experience homestays and support local families. In the end, they are the ones who miss out on what could have been a great local experience.
