A great 2 nights in Lisbon - not far from the beaches!!

The hotel is right on a main road in a suburb outside Lisbon but fairly handy for the beach which is only about 15 minutes away in a cab. However, travelling in and out of the centre of Lisbon wasn't easy during rush hour as the bridges are nose to tail with traffic. This is not the countryside and it's next to a petrol station and opposite a Lidl. We booked a garden room which was extremely dark as it was effectively at basement level and at the back of the hotel. The only garden was some fake grass and our view was a few trees planted into the slope that came down from the boundary wall of the hotel property. I suspect guests with rooms on the roadside of the building wouldn't want to use their balconies as it's pretty noisy although they received the sun. Reluctantly the staff agreed to move us to a room on a higher floor with a balcony overlooking the back of the property. The rooms are large but apart from the emperor sized bed they have little furniture - one plastic chair under the built in desk for sitting on but no sofa or easy chair which would easily fit in the room. The balcony had 2 plastic chairs and a fake tree stump when there was more than adequate room for a table. The rooms were clean and the bathroom was good but there was little by way of extras such as a kettle and a few tea bags. The whole hotel was painted in black and dark colours with subdued lighting. The WiFi was poor in the room and in other parts of the hotel and it's very difficult to walk around in such darkness especially negotiating the stairs. The outdoor pool is pretty small with large static sun loungers and umbrellas around it. However, they were occupied pretty much all day which left a couple of rickety plastic moveable sunloungers that were extremely uncomfortable as they had no cushions. Again, you have the fake grass around the pool which is a bit naff. The breakfast was adequate and there is a limited selection of food in the bar next to the pool. We didn't try the hotel restaurant but wandered out to a sushi place five minutes down the road that was excellent. All in all, the place was suitable for our needs (a wedding nearby) but I can't imagine why anyone who is visiting Lisbon would want to stay so far out from the city and in such a fairly average hotel.
