Eco Hotel Sora

I stayed here for 3 days while visiting Yakushima. The hotel is clean and comfortable, while the staff are very friendly and happy to help with anything you need. There's a coin laundry for washing clothes after hiking, the location is a quick walk to one izakaya and a 15-20 minute walk to Anbo where more restaurants are available. Bus stop is right across the street and there's ample parking if you rent a vehicle. Walls are thin, which is not unusual in Japan, so be prepared to hear your neighbor sneeze. Bathroom is a unit bath (not separate toilet and shower/bath), which can be expected at this price. One great amenity is that they can prepare a bento for you to take hiking if you let them know the night before. This comes in handy if the market that's close by has already sold out. I hope I get to come back to Yakushima and if I do, I'll stay here again.

Everything here is clean and efficient. Usually one staff present somewhere in the hotel except between 23:00 and 04:00. My photo shows my bed. Thin mats on top of a raised tatami on a wooden frame. Super comfortable and clean. But no electric outlet near the bed. No eating place on the premises but you can use the Onsen and gift shop next door for free at the Green Hotel. Parking is also free. All trekking and other info available in the lounge. And, of course, every staff I met here was super friendly and helpful. Coin laundry, vending machine with no mark up on the prices from local stores, emergency instant noodles and snacks on sale. As long as you follow a few simple rules, this is an exceptional find, especially for the trekkers.
