    This was our favourite hotel to stay at during our Spain trip. Everything about the hotel was fantastic - rooms, location, staff, pool. We will definitely be booking here again whenever we return to Madrid.

    Not in the most upscale neighborhood but conveniently located about 10 minutes on foot away from Prado Museum, Puerta del Sol and maybe 15-20 min from Atocha train station. Convenient for train travels to/from Atocha. Small pool by the restaurant. Pros: Spacious room, spacious bathroom with double shower and nice Molton Brown toiletries, good hair dryer, very friendly and helpful staff, twice daily housekeeping Cons: no real lobby, dark hallway at the elevator, dimly lit inside the rooms not suitable for work in case someone needs to, again lighting issues in the bathroom with insufficient light over the vanity (not sure how anyone can put on makeup there, had to use the closet mirror Manage your expectations and you’ll be fine. They’re not a MO or Four Seasons but then they don’t charge that way too.

    CoolRooms Palacio Atocha is a beautiful, well-maintained hotel with spacious, nicely decorated rooms and a great location. Unfortunately, our experience was let down by several issues that should have been communicated more clearly. The biggest disappointment was the facade renovation. Our room faced the outside, but because of the renovation, there was essentially no natural light coming into the room. This was never mentioned to us, nor was it disclosed anywhere during the booking process. For a hotel of this standard, I would expect guests to be informed about such a significant limitation before booking. Breakfast is à la carte, which is perfectly fine in principle, but the service was consistently disappointing. Every time we ordered breakfast, something was missing from the order or took an unusually long time to arrive, including fairly standard items such as poached eggs. We also ordered room service once, and it took around an hour for our order to be prepared. To make matters worse, the food was eventually delivered to another room. On the positive side, the hotel itself is clean, the rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, and the location is very convenient. However, the hallways are extremely dark, which could be uncomfortable and potentially hazardous, particularly for children or elderly guests. The location is generally good, but I would also advise being particularly careful in the surrounding area in the early morning and at night. Overall, this could be a lovely hotel, but the lack of transparency about the renovation and the repeated service issues made our stay much less enjoyable than expected. For the price and standard of the property, I would expect better communication and much more reliable service.
