Cocoon City Hostel

A place that became part of my Chania experience My stay at Cocoon City Hostel was one of the most positive parts of my visit to Chania. I originally chose it because of its convenient location and good reputation, but after staying there I understood why so many travellers recommend it. This is not simply a building where guests are given a bed for the night. It is a thoughtfully designed place that understands what travellers actually need when they are away from home. The location was extremely convenient for me because I travelled without a car. Chania’s main bus station is only a short walk away, making it easy to arrive from the airport and take buses to different parts of Crete. The Old Town and the Venetian harbour are also within comfortable walking distance. I could explore Chania, return to the hostel for a rest and then go out again in the evening without needing to spend money on taxis. From the moment I entered, the hostel felt modern, welcoming and well organised. The common areas have a relaxed atmosphere and make it easy to meet people from different countries. At the same time, I never felt that I was forced to socialise. There was always somewhere to sit quietly, use my phone, plan an excursion or simply enjoy a coffee. That balance is important, especially for someone travelling alone. The cleanliness deserves special recognition. Shared accommodation can sometimes be unpredictable, but here I felt that the rooms and common areas were looked after carefully. The sleeping area was practical and comfortable, and the personal locker, reading light and charging point made everyday life much easier. These details may appear small in photographs, but when you are travelling they make a real difference. I also appreciated having access to a properly equipped kitchen. It gave me the freedom to prepare my own food whenever I wanted instead of eating at restaurants every day. This is especially useful during a longer stay and helps travellers control their budget. The common spaces also created natural opportunities to speak with other guests, exchange travel recommendations and sometimes make plans together. What impressed me most was that Cocoon City Hostel managed to feel social without becoming noisy or chaotic, and modern without losing its warmth. It offered the friendly atmosphere of a hostel together with some of the organisation and comfort people normally expect from a good hotel. I came to Chania looking for affordable accommodation, but I found a place that added something valuable to the whole journey. I would happily stay here again and recommend it to solo travellers, friends and anyone visiting Chania without a car. If you want a central location, a comfortable bed, useful facilities and a relaxed international atmosphere, Cocoon City Hostel is an excellent choice.

Impressed by how clean it is, special credit to cleaning staff

Hostel is fantastic and you should stop there when arriving or departing Crete as it is only 3 blocks from bus station..

I clearly requested a bottom bunk when booking, but upon arrival, the staff claimed they never saw my note and refused to accommodate me, saying the hostel was full. When I got to the room, I saw two bottom beds unoccupied. I asked again, politely, to switch, but the receptionist insisted I had to wait until the next morning and even change rooms. That night, I fell twice from the top bunk and badly bruised both legs. When I informed the receptionist, she dismissed it, saying it wasn’t her fault. Later, when another guest offered to switch with me, she refused again, saying everything had to go through reception. This was by far my worst hostel experience. I will never return to this hostel — or to Greece.
