Nice place to stay and helpful staff

I definitely needed to take the time to write this review to encourage the staff and let future travelers know they won't be disappointed here! I hope the hotel keeps delivering this kind of service in the future. We are an NRI family from Germany who met up with our extended family from Visakhapatnam, booking two Family Rooms. After lots of research for a central, budget-friendly hotel, we chose Hotel Ajanta through Agoda. I was initially worried about communication gaps with a third-party booking, but the staff put my mind at ease immediately. When I called to confirm, they were extremely helpful and reached out on WhatsApp, making communication incredibly smooth. Because we made a prepaid booking, they even provided a free airport pickup! The driver was courteous and helped with all our luggage right from the arrival gate. Having had bad experiences in central Delhi before, this hotel was a breath of fresh air. It is trustworthy and well-managed. Huge thanks to Maya for her excellent coordination, and to the reception and room service staff for their courtesy. The hotel is perfectly located near the New Delhi Railway Station. We also loved the on-site restaurant, which served a delicious included breakfast with both North Indian and Western options. Highly recommended for families, NRIs, and anyone looking for a reliable, medium-budget stay in Delhi!

Regardless of a hotel's star rating or how luxurious a budget hotel tries to appear, a good hotel is ultimately one that provides reliable and seamless service, without exposing its guests to uncomfortable or unexpected situations in the first place. And that is what matters most in any travel experience. ---- This review is a difficult one because it has two sides: A) One concerning the hotel and its facilities, and B) the other concerning the work carried out by its staff. A) If I focus on the hotel itself and my arrival experience, this is NOT a hotel I would recommend. Despite booking a Superior Room (one of their highest-category room), the room had no hot water. We were told this was due to a temporary technical issue, but judging by comments from other guests, it appears to be an ongoing—or at least recurring—problem. The facilities are old, poorly maintained, neglected, and dirty. The kettle was broken and unsafe to use with boiling water, the walls and doors were dirty and showed no signs of having been cleaned, the corners of the bathroom were visibly unclean, and the shower fixtures were not functioning properly The hotel was clearly renovated at some point, but that must have been years ago, and the current lack of maintenance is evident throughout the property. Although the room looked like the photos advertised (spacious and adequately equipped), those photos are misleading because the impression of cleanliness and care they convey is nowhere close to reality. The check-in process at a hotel should be smooth and free of unpleasant surprises that require guests to argue with the reception staff to have them resolved. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. To be honest, I am surprised by the number of positive reviews this hotel receives. Personally, I believe they are largely the result of the tireless work carried out by the hotel manager and the attention she gives to guests, seemingly with the aim of encouraging positive reviews before they leave the hotel. B) As for the staff and the way management handled the issues with our room, I have to say they were very professional. They offered us the opportunity to move to another room of a similar category on a lower floor, where the hot water worked somewhat better—though still far from perfectly. However, that room did not have the balcony included with the one we had booked, so we decided to remain in our original room. To compensate for the inconvenience, they offered us a complimentary airport drop-off at the time we needed, as well as access to a room about 45 minutes (or more) before our scheduled pick-up so we could rest and take a shower before heading to the airport. These were genuinely helpful gestures, and we accepted them. They certainly helped us end both our stay and our trip to India on a much more positive note, and we sincerely thank the front desk staff for that. However, once again, these solutions—good as they were—served only as a patch for the hotel's underlying structural problems. --- Regardless of a hotel's star rating or how luxurious a budget hotel tries to appear, a good hotel is ultimately one that provides reliable and seamless service, without exposing its guests to uncomfortable or unexpected situations in the first place.
