Adra Hostel Boutique

I really wanted to like this hostel. It’s in a great location and has a beautiful view of the volcano however there are multiple issues that tell me that safety was not considered in its design. The first and largest issue is that the 8-bed mixed-dorm room shower has a frosted glass door that anyone can see into. This would have been uncomfortable enough in a female only dorm, but given this is a mixed dorm and the only way to avoid being seen by others in the dorm is by turning the light off and showering in the dark is absolutely madness. The second issue is that the lockers provided for the 8-bed dorm won’t even fit a standard cabin sized bag into them, meaning most people in the dorm had to keep their bags by their bunks and hope that nothing was stolen. When I raised these issues with the manager I was told ‘this isn’t a party hostel so everyone is friendly and that makes it safe’. I will note that there are 3 other showers outside of the dorm room that have non see-through doors that can be used, however currently only two of them work and were dirty each time I used them. As a solo female traveller, this is not a hostel that I would recommend.

Historic architecture and a little modern design. Good use of space. Good food. The inside garden and rooftop with view of the volcano is fantastic.

Adra has super comfy beds, the privacy curtain is great but its a bit of a party hostel. If thats what you're after, then its great. But the only quiet time is before 11am and after 11pm

If you are under 20's looking for fun, this could be a good option. For everyone else, there are more pleasant and safe option nearby. It's the first hostel that I have been to that's 3rd level of beds (see image) and climbing on requires high level of fitness and climbing down extreme care if you don't want to fall 8 feet. The room was poorly lit and the loud music permanently in background. The front desk worker couldn't be less helpful.
