Agriturismo Sole di Sicilia

This is a beautiful country house in a quiet location in the North Etna wine country. Our hostess, Velinda, was a lady with the mostest - kind, outgoing, eager to accommodate any of our requests and provide information on the surrounding region. The breakfast buffet is extensive, featuring local products from their own creation, as well as most items a less adventurous palate could desire. It was a lovely experience overall for the one night we stayed but could also make a fine base for several days of exploration in the region for those traveling with a car.

I can't really think of anything we didn't like.

If you like to stay on the country side this is the perfect place. Everything was perfect! Beautiful surroundings. Nice room with a comfortable bed. The common area was nice with coffee, tea and sofas to relax. Hostess was very nice and helpful. A very good restaurant only 800 meters away.

You must have a car!

We don’t like to be critical.   And, as travelers, we appreciate when those who have visited a place before us leave an honest review.  So, in turn, we also want to be accurate and fair. The Good:  The property is in an excellent location from which to explore everything that Mount Etna has to offer.  The management of the property is very friendly.  They were also helpful, for example, in giving directions so as to avoid a bad road. Upon arrival we got a warm welcome and help with the luggage.   There is plenty of free parking.  We were very pleased to see that our room had mosquito screens on the windows.. The two sisters and the staff who manage the facilities were always cheerful and respectful.  Plus, they offered lots of information about places to eat, wine tasting, and much more.  The breakfast was plentiful and included both sweet and savory items, as is typical in Italia.  Plus, there was fresh fruit and even some products, such as jams, that are produced right on the property. We also appreciated that, at night, there was a motion-detection night-light that turned on automatically. It was not too bright, but provided enough light to get to and from the bathroom. The view from our room overlooked the garden and was pleasant.

Not so Good: While the breakfast is generally plentiful, too much was packaged sweets, cakes, and biscuits. And the savory items such as salumi and cheeses were too salty for us. Some people may like that –- so much depends on personal taste -– but it was mostly not to our liking. The WiFi in our room was weak and inconsistent.  It kept cutting in an out, which made it difficult to communicate online.  (The WiFi on the main floor is stronger, so it is possible to get some things done.)  There are areas of the building inside that are dusty and not very clean.  The shower in our room was not pleasant to use.  The tile grout needs to be cleaned more frequently.  The hand-held shower handle was loose and the shower head flow was poor.  The water pressure was inadequate.  And the shower curtain was much too long.  Shower water collected in the folds at the base, and the shower curtain itself never had a chance to dry. Overall: There is much too like: the location is great. the friendliness of the staff, and aspects of the structure are good. The management should reduce the overall clutter which makes it hard to keep the place clean and free of dust, upgrade the WiFi, and improve the plumbing and bathrooms, With some attention and upgrades the property can become a true jewel of the region.
