About this cabin rental

Nestled in the woods on a small island easily accessed by ferry, our "tiny" cabin offers island serenity with all the essentials. Small in size, yet perfect for two- enjoy the porch swing or its wicker chairs for a peaceful afternoon with a book or walk your coffee to Gilley Beach and watch the sun rise, just a few hundred yards down the road. The dining table easily accommodates 4 should you want to invite your new island friends over for drinks or dinner!

The Cabin offers a full bathroom with oversize shower with paper goods, soap, and towels provided. A well-equipped kitchen offers a two-burner cooktop, fridge, microwave/convection combo, toaster, keurig coffee maker with pods, and handheld mixer along with all the pots and pans, dishes, and silverware one could need. A Weber Gas grill and single burner lobster cooker are just outside the cabin for all your favorite grilled meals. The queen bed in the loft is accessed by a spiral staircase. A queen sleeper is also available on the main floor for those that prefer to avoid stairs. Modern conveniences such as quality high speed wifi, a smart tv with your favorite apps, heat and AC blend with aged driftwood accents and birch sapling railings to create a calm, cozy, yet very comfortable place to retreat to while still feeling connected to the world at large on whatever level you choose.

The cabin is near the main house making us easily accessible for all questions about island life, lobstering, off-island adventures (such as Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor), and what it's like to winter in Maine yet still provides all the privacy you would want. Paul loves to offer a free pair of lobsters to all our guests, fresh off his lobster boat in order to fully immerse in the Maine island experience. It's a 10-12 minute walk (or 5 minute bike ride) to the Town Dock where the ferry lands and departs every two hours in the summer- providing easy access to Acadia and its truly infamous Rockefeller carriage roads and trails- but please know we always greet our guests at the dock upon arrival to transport luggage and groceries and provide a warm welcome to the island. On the mainland the Island Explorer FREE bus service departs from the ferry pier regularly to allow all visitors full access to Acadia without the hassle of looking for parking. We do, however, offer a free, designated parking spot on the mainland, adjacent to the ferry pier, for the duration of our guest's stay. The short, very scenic ferry ride amongst the Cranberry Isles on the passenger "mailboat" is considered by many to be one of the more memorable highlights of any visit to our island.

The island is home to a locally-renowned hot spot, The Islesford Dock Restaurant. Also on Islesford are Islesford Pottery, several art galleries, several museums, and a gift shop. A library and post office are just a 5-7 min walk. Further, a summer night ferry (several nights to 6 nights a week depending upon the month) offers easy access to the bustle of Bar Harbor and the carriage roads of Acadia National Park while at the same time allowing the quiet ocean waves to lull you to sleep once you return.

If you are searching for peace and tranquility, you have found it! This is the perfect getaway for a couple. It has everything you could possibly think of and more. Joanne and Paul were nothing short of spectacular as our hosts! Joanne spoiled us, and Paul taught us the history of the island and lobster fishing. The residents on the island were very friendly. It is easy to go to the mainland using the ferry service. You will not regret booking here!

Too wonderful to put into words! Perfect in every way. Hands down, best VRBO stay we’ve ever had. Joanne puts every attention to detail and she and Paul go above and beyond to provide an unforgettable Maine coast experience. We decided to take advantage of what the island had to offer and took one day to do the same at Great Cranberry, which has the best grocery store (everything you could need) and Hitty’s, the best ever lobster roll! Pure joy! Many thanks and blessings to our hosts!!!

Idyllic, the perfect little cottage on the most quaint island owned by truly wonderful people. This is one stay you will not want to end. All the previous reviews have done the same thing I am, which is selling past the close. If it's available book it. Joanne and Paul will feel like family when you leave, as will the other Mainers you encounter. The island is beautiful, Acadia next door, go whale watching, eat lobster, read a book, talk to the locals...you may just get lucky and find some forever memories!

This was, by far, my best experience staying in a rental. Joanne was so sweet and accommodating. She picked me up at the dock when I got off of the ferry and personally took me to the cabin and showed me around. She left freshly made breakfast goodies on a shelf on the porch every morning (breakfast isn't served anywhere on the island). She made sure I had everything I needed for my stay. She was wonderful. The cabin itself was amazing. It was very clean and comfortable. The location was great, it was near the end of a quiet little road. The ocean was just a short walk away, I could see it from the front yard. The kitchen was stocked with coffee, tea and a full spice rack. I had such a fun and relaxing stay. I HIGHLY recommend staying in Joanne's cabin!
